Watching live streams of runway shows is one thing, seeing a show in real life is another. Getting up close and personal with a new collection? Unreal. Somewhat magical. Candela’s Fall/Winter 2012 presentation transported the audience to a different time. I overheard Candela’s designer, Gabriela Perezutti, saying that she was inspired by the Gold Rush – quite evident in both the presentation décor and in her shoe collection. The velvet oxfords and slippers were a nice touch. Definitely something I can see fellow Chictopians wearing. In fact, everything in this little collection is extremely wearable and can translate easily into anyone’s wardrobe. The gold sequin skirt, red skirt with blue embroidery, and the blue shift dress with gold sequins and embroidered trim were favorites.
The dresses were girly and whimsical – the use of lace, embroidery, and trim made these dresses extra special. Still, even amongst the dresses and skirt combinations, Perezutti offered a two-piece suiting option. The Candela girl can mix and match with the other separates in the collection. Top it off with the grey cable knit sweater then layer the leather and fur coat with the toggle closures, and you’ve got yourself a chic (and very warm) outfit for fall.
The prints and patterns used throughout gave the collection a nice vintage feel, yet the fabrications and materials updated these pieces to be more contemporary. The juxtaposition of a knit sweater against a sequin skirt, for example, was both casual and chic. Pairing the leather suspenders with a crisp button-up shirt and a maxi skirt was a styling inspiration as well. How playful! I only wish there were more.
