Oh you lovers! That blessed Hallmark holiday is upon us again — Valentine’s Day. Regardless of whether you embrace or disregard the day of love, we’ve got some fresh makeup looks that are sure to turn heads (in that, “Dang, look at her” kind of way of course)! To ensure optimum originality, I collaborated with makeup maven/color guru Dana of Aura Skincare & Cosmetics.
For these looks, feel free to duplicate, add, or subtract in order to compliment your own personal style!
Look #1 – “Sheer Innocence”
Emphasizing the ombre pout and vibrant cheekbones, we downplayed the eyes with neutral shadows and smudged liner. Before trying this ombre lip, head back to my bold lip tutorial for a quick refresher. Once you’ve digested that how-to, feel free to carry on.
In order to achieve the ombre effect, apply a light pink lipstick to the “meaty” section of a bold red lip. To complete, dust a pastel shimmer powder onto the lip’s center and “cupid’s bow” at the top of the upper lip. This will pull the lips forward and create a longer-lasting look! Disclaimer: These lips cannot be guaranteed depending on how the evening progresses.
Dana highlighted the cheekbones with complimenting shades of tangerine and coral. Note: Do not be afraid to cocktail your blushes, lipsticks, or shadows. Often times the intermixing of colors is necessary in order to achieve the best shade for your skin tone. Plus, it creates additional colors for your makeup palette!
Look #2 – “Cornered”
For the second look, you’ll notice subtle additions to the depth of color. Dana emphasized the outer corners of the lids with a deep eggplant shadow, Brazilian Nut. On the outer crease and inner brow bone, she added electric hues of neon pink and tangerine. I know, I know — You might not be entirely comfortable (yet) in vibrant colors, but a coral, lilac, or an iridescent neutral might be the perfect fit!
We amped up the ombre lips this round with a pop of wine-colored liner in the outer corners. Tip: Liner lasts longer than lipstick. Fill in your entire lip before adding lipstick and skip the gloss to secure that tinted pout all night long!
Look #3 – “Dusk”
For the final look, we opted for the standard smokey eye with a twist! Notice the warmer hues along the brow bone with the contrasting bronze lid and smudged bottom liner. This round of liner was a combination of black gel liner (applied with a flatline brush for precision) and a brown metallic pencil. Like I said before, cocktail it girls!
Lastly, enhance any of these three looks with false eyelashes. I personally wouldn’t recommend attempting lashes if you’re an “eyelash virgin” — Especially for a Valentine’s date night! We wouldn’t want to be responsible for a lash falling off during dinner…
So for this Valentine’s Day think ombre, think electric, think smoldering. Go get ’em girls!
