Ladies (and gents), let’s talk hair. My prediction is that 2012 will be a year of reinvention with a dash of slight experimentation. Be inspired!
With Arizona Muse leading the charge, it’s going to be pixie cuts galore! First it was her 90s mom bob, then the 20s pageboy in Tom Ford, and now the pixie for Isabel Marant. Honestly, any of her signature styles will do — As long as you wear it with confidence.
Speaking of confident women, let’s discuss Rooney Mara lopping off her locks for the American version of “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”. I have a hunch that her cropped mini bangs from Vogue’s November cover will find their place in hair trends this year. Not to mention short fringe was spotted this past autumn on the runways of Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, and Miu Miu.
Let’s make a pact. I’m advocating a temporary death to the a-line bob. This decade-old do is tired, and in desperate need of a break. But for you bob-lovers I’ve discovered a redesign for this year – The Shab (or shag bob). This style features choppy layers with the option of lash-grazing bangs.
Think effortless and undone. The “Urbanite” features textured ends along with “barely there” waves. Alexa Chung has long sported the mid-length “Urbanite” with models at Givenchy SS 2012 donning a slightly longer version.
Dip-dyed tips will continue to make an appearance this year, along with subtle pastel streaks. I’ve personally had my fill of dip-dye, but it appears Hollywood has not. Instead, opt for the non-committal dip-dye by purchasing Kevin Murphy’s Color Bug in pink, purple, or orange.
Men’s Style – The Quiff
The quiff of 2012 is the sleek rockabilly of years passed. The exaggerated pompadour with smooth sides — This hairstyle is fresh-out-of-bed (but not). You get the point. But be warned, the quiff is a commitment of daily styling and consistent upkeep. This hairdo will definitely have the ladies swooning in no time!
