Believe it or not, this dress was a summer dress that I got in Zara during the summer sales back in Rome. This is the first time I’m wearing it as the color and texture don’t exactly scream “JULY!” “AUGUST!” “SUN!” “HEAT!” to me, so in spite of the season it was designed for, I saved it for when it was cooler. Honestly, considering the oppressive African heat we get, wearing velvet in the summer strikes me as a weird plan. Or well, it was weird to me. This summer, I might be forced to go back on my word and wear velvet nonetheless because no offense to the beach babes, I find summer styles unbearable enough without having to give up my favorite fabric. Take away lace and velvet, and I feel like I’m crawling through a desert waiting for the next wardrobe oasis, smearing gelato on my face, sticking my head in the water fountains, and sprawling myself out on any cool marble surface I can find.
