Fashion follows no rules and instead of feeling winter, it’s feeling Spring—in the middle of January no less. In welcoming the new year, the magazines are introducing the Spring 2012 collections into their editorials! Vogue Germany’s editorial starring model, Monika Sawicka, includes some of our favorite pieces from Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Alexander Wang. The styling is over the top, but fantastic, and definitely evocative of the mood and style for Spring 2012: voluminous, daring, and irreverent.
The editorial features the model in a pretty similar look throughout the photos. Greased up hair and natural, slightly androgynous, makeup give the fashion forward outfits a cool vibe that makes more sense against the gritty street setting. Jackets are getting giant next season with the silhouette going high volume. The Balenciaga jacket on the front page proves to be the standout piece of the editorial, just as it was on the Paris runway back in September as the opening look. Paired with a jeweled bag and fingerless gloves, the tone is less minimal and more eclectic. High fashion given a New York spin is the premise for this editorial which desaturates an orange plastic Dolce & Gabanna coat and pairs Prada’s opulent jeweled car print satin jacket with hot pants instead of a pleated knee length skirt. The editorial pairs the statement pieces of Spring 2012 and mixes them up in a pattern/texture mash up of fashion.
SPRING 2012’S WHAT TO WEAR
→ It’s all about structure! Flimsy, soft materials may be comfy but to capture the dynamic look of Spring 2012, volume and shape are essential.
→ Pattern mixing is key, but go for vintage inspired ones like photo prints, Hawaiian florals, and 50s motifs.
→ Invest in some cool short shorts. That is all.
THE STYLE GALLERY

→ Holy floral! The it-print of Spring ’12 is obviously the Hawaiian influenced flower, and this sleek suit version is a close cousin to the Alexander Wang look in the editorial.
→ The silhouette and jeweled embellishments of her jacket are giving us major Prada-Balenciaga vibes similar to the bold jackets in the editorial.
→ The editorial had fashion in mostly neutral tones with the exception of a few pops of olive green and this perfect army jacket is so, so modern for Spring ’12.
→ Her short shorts are a spot on interpretation of the bold jacket + shorts silhouette of the entire editorial, it’s the look for Spring 2012.
→ This fluffy white furry coat has the hairy-decadence (weirdest phrase ever) of the Louis Vuitton tweed moto jacket in the editorial.
