I listed the occasion as ‘holiday party’ although it was technically for ‘New Year’s Eve Shiva puja’. I don’t blame Chictopia for not having something like that in their occasions list, though.
A puja is a Hindu riutal paid to a deity. My fiancée and I observed Shiva for the upcoming new year, as he is the god of destruction (we wanted to part with the past) and is famous for his Dance of Creation (appropriate for preparing for a new year). I wanted to wear something that reflected what is symbolic of him: dark, muted colours, and bones. I’m really in love with this outfit; I think it’s definitely one of my favourites. I have grown obsessed with wearing this scarf around my head with long, dangling earrings. The fringe and the earrings almost meld into one.
The coyote vertebrae necklace was hand made by yours truly. It’s a neck bone, and I’m thinking of adding something blue to it, to tie in with the throat chakra. It’s my favourite one: it represents communication, and with that, independence.
For new year’s day, I went to the mall and bought some lovely new pieces to add to my closet, and some new bindis! I also tried the iced green tea lemonade at Starbucks, sweetened. I highly recommend it! I think it will be my new staple drink when I visit.
