I don’t know about you, but depending on the season my purse is an arsenal of beauty products, ready for any crisis. During the winter months it’s all about hydration. Or perhaps it seems more like dehydration considering the challenge of chapped lips, cracked hands, and static hair. Working at a salon, I’m especially OCD about maintaing your mane regardless of the weather “elements”. I even have a strategic concoction of products for my husband to maintain his crazed hipster-woodsman hairdo. It’s super sexy!
Anyways, I’ve done some haircare research for my fellow Chictopians. If you’re experiencing dry, brittle, or static hair this winter season, here’s a couple products that I recommend.
Moroccan Oil
I’m obsessed with my Moroccan Oil so much that I keep a travel-sized bottle in my purse for emergencies. You never know when you might need to smooth down those static ends! Moroccan Oil is made of argon oil, which is a natural UV protectant and nourishes chemically damaged hair. This product has become a part of my daily regime in maintaining the health of my hair, especially considering my once-a-month coloring routine. After shampooing and conditioning, apply a quarter-sized amount mid-shaft to your ends. Avoid using this product at your roots as the argon oil might appear greasy at your scalp. Once hair is completely dry, add a small amount to the ends for extra shine and to smooth fly-aways. Note: You’ll notice that this product is most effective with consistency.
Pureology Hydra Cure
The winter elements are especially harsh on our hair. And if you’re a hair color addict like myself, you ought to be protecting your locks with an intense conditioning treatment. I religiously use my Pureology Hydra Cure masque 1-2 times per week. Instead of using my regular conditioner, I’ll saturate my hair with the masque and leave it on for 5-10 minutes in the shower then rinse. Dry, cold weather along with hair coloring will sap your tresses of protein and moisture. Deep conditioning treatments add that protein and moisture back into the hair. What I love about Pureology is their products are 100% vegan. All of their formulas are naturally-based and infused with organic botanicals. They also contain zero sulfates and are a color protectant – Which is a plus in maintaining your color longer! Did I mention the smell is amazing too?
Some more quick tips:
Get creative styling without your hot tools during the winter months. Give your hair a break from the heat of your flatiron, curling iron, or blow dryer. I sometimes sleep with two pigtail braids and wake up to sexy, beachy waves! Or perhaps wear your hair up with a DIY sock bun. This is my go-to style when I’m in a time crunch.
