This definitely ranks among my top fave outfits ever. I don’t know where to start… the lace, the crushed red velvet, the sunglasses, the little velvet purse… I could wear this every single day and get neither bored nor embarrassed. Emboldened by the rich warm holiday spirit, I flung myself into my closet, whirled around my favorite items like a crazed Tasmanian devil, and emerged wearing what I think could land me a job leading Ebenezer Scrooge around as the Spirit of Christmas Present. Does it seem over-the-top to say I find it really invigorating to pull together all my favorite things and wear them all at the same time? I’ve always had a soft spot for opulent lace and velvet, while deep shades of wine and burgundy are a more recent obsession, incorporating them wherever possible: in my clothes, in my makeup (lipstick and eyeshadow), my nail polish, even my sunglasses! It’s such a deep, rich color, and I feel like it’s universally flattering. Plus, it’s one of those shades that I find make Helena Bonham Carter look absolutely stunning, so I secretly consider it a sort of ouija color to channel the spirit of my idol.
