I went out to celebrate my birthday and on the way out me and my boyfriend took some photos in the thick fog.
My chosen charity for Chictopia’s Week of Giving is 350.org. I did some work concerning them at school, raising their issues, so it’s something I’ve been involved with. The are based primarily on the issues of climate change and environmental awareness. It’s important, now more than ever, that we’re aware of the very real threats of climate change. Global warming is still a topic under debate even with all the evidence there is to show that it’s a very real threat. 350.org works to promote climate change and to bring it to the attention of governements around the world, to force them to take action.
350.org is based around a study published by James E. Hansen, a NASA scientist who wrote that 350 parts-per-million of CO2 in the atmosphere is a safe upper limit to avoid a climate tipping point. We’re quickly approaching this point, and who knows how long the Earth will be habitable after we’re reached this point. We only have one planet, we should take care of it.
With the economic crisis around the globe governments are shifting attention away from the climate problem but it shouldn’t come in second place after economies. We need to act quick and we need to act now, we can all do our part but without the backing of government the big polluters won’t change their ways.
