Alexa Chung (one of my personal style icons) describes herself as a tomboy. She also describes herself as girly. Not frosted lipgloss and skimpy halter-tops girly, but little girl who climbs trees and scrapes her knees girly with sweet bows, flats, and shift dresses with ruffles. AKA totally chic. Stella McCartney presented some sophisticated duds that gave me some childhood deja vu. This updated version of the sweet girly bows brings glamour and grace to this delicate embellishment. Designed for Spring 2012, the short sleeves aren’t winter-appropriate, and I wanted to rock this look now! Try it out on another huge trend this season – the turtleneck – for a sweet and sophisticated top that is perfect for the holiday season!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- A white turtleneck
- 7/8" width black grosgrain ribbon
- A needle and thread
-Scissors
TUTORIAL:
[CUT] – Cut 14" sections of your black grosgrain ribbon. You will need 30 of these.
[TIE] – Tie each piece of ribbon in a bow. To make the perfect bow, create two evenly sized loops, cross the right over the left, and then around and through the hole. Like tying your shoes in the bunny ears style!
[PLACE] – Lay your shirt down flat and place bows where you’d like them.
[SEW] – Secure each bow with a stitch!
Repeat this process on the front, back, neck, and sleeves for a totally bow-t-full top! Check out how some other Chictopians are rocking sweet bows in sophisticated ways:
