Halloween has always been my most favorite time of the year. I think it’s because we get that one free pass a year to get up and go in however we like and won’t be overtly called like the weirdos we are. (I might just be speaking for myself though, okay, I kid.) Like every year, I make my own costume so as not to double the Halloween horror of finding out you have the same costume as some other dude.
If you don’t already know it, I came as a Tempura Maki Roll. With a little Tempura-themed nail art going on too. Mind you, with a lot of effort poured into it as I made this entire costume from scratch myself. Took some styrofoam (I promised Mother Nature to plant a tree from the minimal CFC’s I released into the air) and a cutter of course, to cut out the details—rice, cucumber & kani (crab stick). Wrapped the roll in black crepe paper which I varnished to shine for the nori (seaweed). I stood as the Tempura by wearing a ruffled top and glued a shrimp tail to the orange beanie my boyfie bought for me (I know he wouldn’t mind).
My DIY costume would’ve been realistically raw had I not been THIS CLOSE to slicing my pinky in the process of shaping every morsel of Japanese rice detail you see before you. Okay okay, I will spare you the gore, but isn’t that what Halloween is all about?
I wouldn’t know, I can’t tell, I’m busy being a raw TREAT.
Happy Halloween, folks!
