I went to an all girls school that had the most amazing art teacher. She used to take assembly and tell us about all the inspiring female artists and my favourite of the lot was always Frida Kahlo. There’s something about a woman who lived in a physical pain I can only imagine but used that pain to create visceral, angry, passionate art that gets me every time.
For Halloween Frida seemed like a great idea – dressing up as a woman you admire is far more fun than a sexy nurse or cat…Funnily enough I already owned 95% of the components to be Frida in my everyday wardrobe, the only thing I needed to buy were some fabric flowers for my hair. I think I’ll dress as her more often from now on.
