Since the movie Suckerpunch began to air previews earlier this year I knew I had to be Babydoll for Halloween. I love kick ass girls and I live to wear anything that looks remotely like a Japanese school girl outfit (2 years ago I was sailor moon, a costume I made from reclaimed corduroy) and thigh high socks. This year I decided to kick it up a notch by making the entire thing by hand from yards of flat fabric. Not only does this ensure a perfect fit (unless you lose more weight since the costume was made, which I did) but most store bought Halloween costumes tend to look cheesy, mostly because of the cheap nature of the material they use. I took an entire week off from my full time job to create the perfect Babydoll costume. Armed with 2 yards of navy blue fabric, matching and contrasting ribbon, and fabric dye in addition to miles of thread and other various notions, I set out. Working a little each day, hand pleating, ironing each component, breaking open seams, installing a zipper for easy in and out of the top, and fixing the enormous shoulders that made me look like a football player. The night of our party I was still making the scarf and headband. All the work paid off and my costume was a hit at both parties we went to! I hope I get the chance to show it off again!
