Where do I start with these awesome 70s boots? Well, I acquired them almost 12 years ago after an actor friend of mine was wrapping up a Broadway production of Hairspray. He got to keep some of the clothes and wasn’t interested in keeping these boots, WHAT?!?! They weren’t even worn, poor things. I obviously snatched them up, even though they are much too big for me, and have kept them safe ever since.
The story of the Earth Shoe is an interesting one. The company was started in 1970 by Anna Kaslo, born in Denmark in 1905, she was a lifelong Yoga enthusiast that designed the sole of the shoes to emulate the natural body position of the yoga pose Tadasana (the ‘Mountain’ pose). She believed this would improve posture and open breathing passages. I encourage you to read the full story and history of Anna and her company here.
The shoes and boots Earth Shoe made in the 70s have a classic hippie/bohemian look to them and can be worn by men and woman. I personally prefer the footwear they made then, the ones they make today are cool but don’t have that great vintage look. You can still buy vintage Earth shoes online at places like Etsy.com or Ebay.com, just put “vintage Earth shoes” in the search box. As far as these boots go, it’s time for me to part with them, they should go to someone that can actually wear them. If you’re interested you can buy them at my site La Sirena Bags.
