Rachel Zoe presented her Spring/Summer 2012 collection in Midtown Manhattan, the second-ever collection for her newly launched line. Zoe was just as charming and energetic as she is on her reality series “The Rachel Zoe Project”, very hurriedly bringing Joe Zee, Creative Director of ELLE magazine, through the crowds of onlookers to see some standout looks from her first-ever fashion week presentation. The modern yet classic looks were inspired by “Brigitte Bardot in the south of France in the late ’60s, early ’70s” said Zoe. The effortlessly chic and glamorous look of a working woman (Zoe herself, perhaps?) showed through the collection in many ageless separates and feminine dresses and hairstyles. Here were some standout looks from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection:
Zoe’s Signature Style
Effortless chic and femininity ruled the collection—which is what Zoe is so good at achieving. Some of the models looked so much like Zoe herself that I’d have to do a double take. In particular was a model wearing a long, ivory jacquard dress with frilly sleeves, a skinny gold belt and Zoe’s signature hairstyle—a low bun with soft curls.
Light and Feminine
Many of Zoe’s light fabric blouses and dresses were made of white or black mousseline de soie, a fine crisp fabric made of silk. Two beautiful pieces included the white tie-collar blouse worn with high-waisted palazzo pants and the white blazer worn over a black mousseline de soie ribbon dress. The light and airy fabrics juxtaposed with the black and white palette softened the outfits for a feminine yet conservative spring look.
Women’s Suit
Contrasting with the otherwise feminine gowns and dresses were the amount of pantsuits in the collection. Still, Zoe’s pantsuits were kept feminine. Tailored blazers over evening gowns or with a pair of tuxedo shorts, reminiscent of Zoe’s own personal style, were seen throughout the spring collection. Many included white canvas blazers that were softened with feminine pieces like a frilly jacquard tank top or an evening gown.
Red Bursts
While most of the color palette consisted of butterscotch tan, black or white pieces, there were bursts of red. One look in particular was the head to toe ruby red gorgette tie-collar blouse with a pair of matching slouchy pants. This look will definitely be a knockout for women’s work wear.
With Zoe’s signature bohemian chic style, the collection was a knockout and an improvement compared to her last collection. Other celebrity attendees included Kim Kardashian and Molly Sims.
