youre hilarious! btw, do you think with fabric and some really sneeky pictures taken in the american apparel to get the seaming, that someone that is really cheap, such as myself, could recreate it for about 25 dollars less?

Probably! It's really just a big piece of fabric made into a tube--but the quality of the material is pretty hard to recreate. But post pictures if you figure it out!

I like the black and greys (since they go with everything--but that may have something to do with the fact that my closet is like 80% black and grey...)

how to tie the american apparel circle scarf

Dec 05, 2008
DiggDigg this
StumbleStumble it!

I don’t mean to get all hipster boner fest on you guys, but I really do love me some American Apparel. Granted, their clothes can be fairly pricey, but the pieces are usually easy to wear, flattering on the body, and really versatile.

The most versatile of them yet? The circle scarf (stay tuned for our chic haves give away of this scarf coming up on the 15th) And after seeing user Niquita deftly transform the scarf into sick tops and draped dresses, I wanted to try for myself.

IT’S SO EASY, GUYS. Srsly, after transforming the cotton tube into dresses, jackets, tops and even a strange pair of drop-crotch pants, I felt like a regular drape-master Rami.

The sturdy cotton keeps shape so you can feel confident that your knots and tucks will stay put. Here’s how to recreate the looks:

Tube dress:
Step into the circle scarf and tie to sections of the top edge together to create a knot. Tuck one of the loose ends into the dress and hide the other end with a belt.

Snood:
Easy peasy. Wrap the scarf around your neck twice, and pull one layer over your head. Accessorize with a bundle of onions and a bottle of vodka from the old country.

Drop crotch pants:
This one is a little harder. Step into the tube and tie the bottoms into a large knot in between your legs to create a partition. Fold the top section around your waist and secure with a belt.

Halter top:
Step into the tube and bunch the scarf around your waist. Then, twist the scarf once in front of you and loop the end over your head. Drape the folds so they cover everything and then hold it all together with a belt.

Caplet:
With your arms behind you, slip the scarf over your arms and onto your shoulders. If the thing is a little insecure, you can twist the scarf once before slipping the other arm in to keep things snug.
