Timo Weiland is the brain child of designers Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein who were chosen as inductee members of the 2012-2014 CFDA Fashion Incubator Program, which encourages the growth of creativity and business for up-and-coming new designers. Spring/Summer 2012 is the first season for Timo Weiland to show on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week runway instead of through presentation and the designers truly wowed and impressed their audience with a mens/womens collection.
Summer Forever
The Timo Weiland show was the first of the season where I saw clothes that would truly work for a Summer setting, while most are teetering on the edge of Spring (hoping for colder and rainy weather for long sleeves and layers), Timo Weiland shows colors and styles evocative of the heat. The designs included cropped strapless tops with pleated flowing skirts and shorts.
Flower Power
The quintessential warm-weather-print is the floral and Timo Weiland went to the 90s with it in both temperature AND era-inspiration. The prints were on floaty Summer dresses and rendered in an effect which was similar to a micro-floral but the look was decidedly fresh. Giving flowers a more painterly feel added an abstract depth to the collection, also shown through the playful gigantic-Shrinky-Dink-esque plastic flower necklaces.
Mano A Womano
The collection included both menswear and womenswear , but the consistency was flawless. The guys were given as much floral as the girls and the styling was handled well. Some favorites for the men included Celine-Pre-Fall-esque all floral look and lime green coat.
TIMO WEILAND SPRING/SUMMER 2012: Audience Thoughts + Street Style
Robby Whigham (of tooyoungcollection.blogspot.com) loved the collection and thought that “it was much better than last season’s Timo Weiland show.” He also noted that the model casting was perfect for the show.
Stephanie Ospina thought the finale dress, a orange and pink dotted chevron maxi, was amazing and she loved the fun colors. This is her first Timo Weiland show and she dressed to impress! She’s wearing a bold raspberry colored motorcycle jacket, black dress, black + leopard wedges, and a sparkly clutch that shined with her gold-painted nails.
