If you’re a Teen Vogue IT Girl, or even just a Teen Vogue reader, you may have heard of the Teen Vogue Haute Spot. Usually set up in California, the Haute Spot is making a special appearance this year at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Featuring giveaways, mini-workshops, makeovers, runway screenings, musical performances, and celebrity appearances, the Haute Spot is the place to be when you have time to spare between shows.
On September 10, I had the opportunity to go to a DIY Denim workshop with Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This and a meet & greet with actress Shay Mitchell of Pretty Little Liars.
When I first arrived at the Haute Spot, I was surprised by the long line, reaching almost to the door. I thought it was for the DIY workshop! After standing in it for about 10 minutes, I realized the line was for mini-makeovers by Maybelline. I got out of line and sat down at one of the runway screening couches to wait for the workshop to start. When it did, I was one of the first in line to make a braided denim & cord bracelet. It was a simple project, very easy to recreate at home.
You will need: strips of denim, ribbon, cord, chain, or anything else you can braid into your bracelet
Simply knot 3 strips of your material together at one end, leaving one strip longer out of the knot to tie the bracelet with. Braid to fit around your wrist once or twice, and knot again. Leave one piece of material long, to tie your bracelet, and cut the other two. And that’s it! The project took less than 15 minutes.
After finishing my bracelet, I had to follow a long line back outside to wait for Shay Mitchell to arrive. It was hot out, but the Haute Spot volunteers were very accommodating, bringing water, snacks, and free Teen Vogue magazines to people waiting in line. Finally, the security guards just let everyone in and Shay Mitchell came out to pose for pictures.
I waited for about 45 minutes more to get up to Shay for an autograph. She is seriously gorgeous in person, and so nice, taking the time to talk with every fan. I asked her what her must-have fashion item for fall was. Her answer? Corduroy pants. Good choice, Shay!
