I’m not one to discriminate against age, but I can see how some might be skeptical as to how a 50-something designer can create modern clothing that will be popular with the 20-somethings. I don’t know how she does it, but Nicole Miller continued to wow us this season with a bright, sporty collection for Spring/Summer 2012.
The show started off with a range of slinky, slouchy separates decorated with vibrant op-art patterns. The models strutted cooly in Tania Spinelli for Nicole Miller shoes to beats spun by MrWilsonDJ. When the starting poppy song turned into French Yelle’s hit song, A Cause des Garçons, the stripes came out and the show kicked it into full gear. “Now let her rip!,” as the program said…
Some pieces that got photographers clicking:
+ a long-sleeved rainbow jumpsuit with zipper detailing and extra pockets
+ a blue and red striped dress with checkerboard trim, paired with a clear trenchcoat
+ a sheer red and grey blouse over red, turquoise, and grey striped skirt, worn with a turquoise cross-body bag
+ a black shift dress with yellow, blue, and coral inserts; accessorized with beaded bracelets and boots
Afterwards, I snuck backstage with fellow editors Iris and Daniel to snap some shots of the models (the few who were still there), the clothes, and Nicole Miller herself. Note the cool two-tone polish (by CND) on the blonde model and how great Nicole Miller looks for 59! Looks like someone hit the genetic lottery—and is truly young at heart. Just look at those clothes!
