Luca Luca designer, Raul Melgoza, shows that he knows how to please his audience. With a front row dotted with young Hollywood starlets, the runway show was filled with shoulder-exposing flowing evening gowns perfect for a Spring 2012 premiere or awards show all culminating in a flower-polka dot finale dress that was modern, youthful and unique.
BEJEWELED
Upon rushing up to The Stage at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and entering a bit late for the show, I was greeted with strutting blonde hair and bold, bright color! The casual elegance of the Los Angeles-vibe was heightened by Raul Melgoza’s use of emerald greens, royal blue-purples, and every LA girl’s dream, fuchsia.
The jewel-colored collection didn’t stop at just the choice of hue. Some looks that walked carried sleeves of gem encrusted glamour. The mixture of color and embellishment made for a show filled with va-va-voom glamour.
EVENING CHIC + MORE COLOR
While the color was definitely impressive, a majority of the show was spent on extremely chic simple pieces that would work amazingly for daring choices for day, or casually elegant pieces for evening. The white suits and sheer fabrics work well for hotter weather but translate to professional or more formal events seamlessly.
For the more daytime friendly pieces, Raul Melgoza showed pieces in classic black and white alternating them with bright and fun sherbet colors like lime green and aqua blue.
ON TREND: TURBANS
Turbans are all the rage in the blog-o-sphere and Luca Luca took full advantage of this headwear-love-affair. The girls were outfitted in styles like a simply crisp white turban for a more casual look and bold magentas for a pop of color.
A favorite was the bright blue turban and matching belt worn with a light aqua jumpsuit. Instead of going for full on contrast, an analogous color scheme keeps the look fresh!
BEST PIECE
The finale dress was refreshing and chic after a parade of jewel tones. The pattern was a variation on the previous embellishment but did not look like any style that came before it. Simply put, the best part of this modern dress was not just its beauty but its surprise. The billowing polka dot dress and more ornate headpiece are a peek into a very chic future for Luca Luca.
