One of our style icons, StyleVoyager, already dished on all her dressing tips for petite gals. But what about the tall girls?! Don’t fret because recent style icon, Sam of StyleNomad, has tons of goodies to share with us! To learn about how this stylish (and leggy) Chictopian dresses for her height and what are her favorite shops, read on!
1. DRESS FOR YOUR SHAPE
STYLENOMAD: Rather than finding a brand that caters to my height, I think of what clothes flatter my figure besides my height (long legs, wide hips, small waist). I like Zara because the clothes fit my body shape well.
Use what is accessible to you versus going out of your way for specialty stores and pieces. Find stores that cater to your body type! And this goes for everyone— if you learn what looks great on your body you can look amazing no matter what.
2. BALANCE YOUR OUTFIT IF YOU ARE SHOWING A LITTLE TOO MUCH LEG
SN: If I show my arms, I try to cover my legs and vice versa. Oxfords or lace-upboots (masculine shoes) ‘desexualize’ long legs when wearing minis and hot pants. The boyfriend blazer balances out dangerously short dresses. If I’m wearing a pair of uncomfortably high shorts, I wear a long or oversized top and tuck in the front to extend the hemline at the back! However when it gets hot in Hong Kong, these rules are put aside for the sake of comfort and keeping cool!
Since tall girls usually have more leg to show, it can look like a bit too much sometimes. Playing with proportions and trends like Sam says can help in the overall balance of your outfit and help you feel more comfortable in what you’re wearing.
3. WEAR YOUR HEELS PROUDLY!
SN: . I started wearing heels when I stopped caring about how tall I was in relation to men. My only tip is to disregard your height and find a comfortable heel to walk in to boost confidence. Don’t apologize for your height. You are not a giant. Boys are just short.
Most people will say you don’t need heels, you are already tall enough. Prove them wrong! Heels don’t just add height they add confidence, and make your legs look amazing. If people think you look like a “giant” don’t take it to heart— your height is a blessing, not a curse.
4. FASHION IS FOR EVERYONE, FIND YOUR OWN STYLE
SN: Regardless of height, style is not defined by feet and inches but a matter of proportions and personal taste. Fashion risks should be taken no matter how tall you are and appropriated to reflect an individual’s style.
Sam makes a good point here. If you’re petite or tall, curvy or slim, you can have your own unique style and make it your own.
