This week’s Ugly Gossip, we’ve discovered that Vogue Italia made a big boo boo on labeling current trends. Continue to read some more tidbits of what else happened this week in the Ugly Gossip. Yes, we’re showing you some of the good, the bad, and the (really) UGLY that happened this week!
10. You Can Now View ALL of Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Dresses
If you haven’t heard, Kim Kardashian got married in three Vera Wang customized dresses, and whether you’re a fan of her usual style or not, you’ll certainly be a fan of her wedding dresses. Aside of displaying her famous cleavage, she looked like a modern princess with the frills and glamorous headpiece. Congrats to the couple, and you can see the pics here!
09. Look Out for Muppet-Inspired Nail Polish
We’ve been seeing Miss Piggy everywhere; she’s snagged a collaboration with Open Ceremony, an editorial for Vogue Paris, and now, she and the muppets have a nail polish collection. That’s right, popular brand O.P.I. is reaching out to the muppets for inspiration on their holiday nail polish collection. Some of our favourites include Getting Piggy with It, Fresh Frog of Bel Air, and Warm and Fozzie.
Verdict: Want. Them. Now.
08. Schwarzeneggar Shirtless on Hudson Billboard
You may have just conjured a mental image of Arnold Schwarzeneggar in a thong – yowza! But rest assured, we’re talking about the mini Schwarzeneggar – his model potential 17 teenage year old son. You can now see the Terminator’s son, Patrick, on “billboards shirtless modeling”for Hudson’s Fall ad campaign. Also, if you squint, you actually see a bit of Arnold in him. Just slightly.
Verdict: We actually approve!
07. Will You Little Monsters Buy From Lady Gaga’s Clothing Line?
Lady Gaga and Baby Gaga (little sister) are in the works of launching a clothing line which means all of you little monsters can finally nab a piece of Gaga! Though the clothing will not be as extravagant and costumey like Lady Gaga’s, their clothing line will still have a twist to them. It’s said that they’re leaning towards of taking classic style icon clothing (i.e., Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelley, Katherine Hepburn) and remixing them. How? Look out for a Marilyn Monroe white dress – all made of rubber!
Verdict: So ‘Beautiful, Dirty, Rich!’
06. Jil Sander Will Be Releasing Cell Phones
Though we do love Jil Sander’s collaboration with Uniqlo, not sure how we feel about nabbing a Jil Sander cell phone run by LG. The phone is a thin, black smartphone with the logo, Jil Sander, plastered on top of the phone screen. It will be using the Windows processing system and reportedly looks like LG’s Optimus 7. Nothing too savvy and doesn’t look as great as other high end designer (i.e., Prada, Versace) phones already out in the market.
Verdict: Just stick to clothes, Jil!
05. Old Navy ‘Lets Go’ Their Grammar Check on Misspelled T-Shirt
If you’ve been following our tweets, we’ve tweeted that Old Navy just released a line of t-shirts with obvious grammar mistakes. You don’t need to be an English major to know that you need an apostrophe in ’Let’s Go’ for the proper spelling. But, instead of ’Let’s Go [Team Name],’ Old Navy printed ‘Lets Go [Team Name]’ which of course has a totally different context than the original. And if you still want to buy ‘em for school spirit, Old Navy’s still selling them!
Verdict: So schooled.
04. ‘Curvy Ladies,’ American Apparel Wants to Hire You
If you think you’re ‘the next big thing,’ and ‘bootyful,’ then maybe you should enter American Apparel’s contest to be their next plus-sized model. Aside from the ridiculous puns from the website, there are already many submissions sent. The viewer can rate these photos from ‘Not Quite’ to ‘XLent’ to put these potential models into the top ranking. While we’re all in for plus-sized models getting more rep, we just can’t help but feel a bit offended by the description of the contest.
Verdict: Real change needs to be done.
03. Wear This Perfume to Get Men Flirt With You
‘Clinically proven,’ Eau Flirt claims that when wearing its perfume, you will attract the men you want and have them flirt back. Turns out that the perfume was developed by a Harvard alum and was even tested through focus groups. The company discovered that pumpkin and lavender scents were the most alluring to the male participants. This sounds waaaay too similar to the 90s movie, Love Potion Number 9 doesn’t it?
Verdict: We’ll pass.
02. Is Street Style the New ‘Reality Television?’
GQ’s senior editor, Will Felch, brings up an interesting point in his essay regarding street style’s huge influence in the fashion industry. He claims that street style has lost its creds since it used to be about snapping shots of everyday people in well, everyday clothes. Now, it’s become more like reality television where people are dressing up for the cameras instead of being candidly shot.
01. Are ‘Slave Earrings’ the same as ‘Ethnic Earrings’?
This week, Vogue Italia got a big slap of no-no for labeling a current trend, big hoop earrings, as ‘Slave Earrings.’ After much criticism over the controversy, the website immediately changed the label from ‘Slave Earrings’ to ‘Ethnic Earrings.’ Even Vogue Italia’s editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani apologized to the public by saying that “it [was] a matter of really bad translation from Italian into English.” We’re not fluent in the Italian language, but we’re not sure how you uses, ‘slave’ and ‘ethnic’ interchangeably. Vogue Italia isn’t the only ones who have recently used unethical procedures, we got a tip from Chictopian Necca that Zara was practicing ‘slave labour’ in Brazil.
Verdict: Innocent or Offensive?
Do you think it was an innocent mistake made by Vogue Italia?
