_Karl Leuterio from inKARLcerating is one of the more prolific male bloggers here at Chictopia. Consistently redefining the meaning of male fashion, Karl shows that menswear can indeed be imaginative and whimsical. Also, I’m sure that his model-like bone structure doesn’t hurt his mega-popularity. Karl baby? I’d like to steal your face, srsly.

Here in the Philippines, people kinda dress the same all year round…what distinguishes winter seasons are “cold armadas†such as scarves, cardigans, or sweaters. Here are my pointers to my fellow guy Chictopians on standing out “appropriately†this winter season.
1. Make it Pop!
As style mavens suggest, gray is still the winning choice this fall. But you don’t want to end up looking like living cement, right? Displaying a wash out look is the last thing you want to do, so try wearing scarves, beanies, gloves and trousers with bold, bright or acid colors.
2. It’s in the Cut
For classy evening parties, go for a tailored velvet coat and a silk shirt. In the sea of men wearing conventional tuxes, a chictopia guy will surely standout in luxurious velvet and silk.
3. Hand me my leather
For Burberry Prorsum Fall 2008, the runway was filled with models in gloves—fingerless, leather, cashmere or wool! Choose a pair in an attention-grabbing color.
4. Be Not a Casual-Tee
Pardon me for using puns.lol (editor’s note: omg Karl, pun on good man. Pun on), but as I see it, boxy shirts are getting lots of raves this season. Guys, if you think its still IN to “put on show†in your sculpted chest and biceps beneath your favorite slim-fit tees, think twice.
5. Fur-fect
And when I say fur, I hope its faux fur. I’m a believer of PETA’s cry for anti-fur! For a casual look, wear jackets with fur linings instead. We all need to be warm.
6. Coat in the Act
Opt for double breasted coats, but be sure that it fits you very well or you’ll be drowned by it. Stick to basic colors like brown or black but have don’t be afraid to have some fun with bright hues like yellow or blue.
7. It’s a Wrap!
High necks and winter go hand in hand. Wrap a scarf around your neck as many turns as possible. This is definitely a standout and classic look.
8 and 9. Knit and Preppy
Everyone needs a staple blazer in his closet. Combat the season with a well-tailored blazer to create an ultimate statement. But if you’re not into structured ensemble, go for a softer knitted cardigan.
10. Sweatpants
I soo adore the rugged elegance of the look. Marc Jacobs did it in gray to emphasize the boots and the coat. Wear it with combat boots or black doc martens to create a rather interesting irony: the soft skinny sweat pants and the buffed rugged combat boots.
11. Your Royal Highness
Of course this season is characterized by my favorite footwear: the boots! Tuck your skinny trousers inside to look military elegant. It’s up to you if you want an ankle boot or go out of the box wearing knee-high ones just like in Dsquared.
12. Cape of Good Hope
Another interesting piece I lust for are the capes or ponchos. I must say this is fierce at its finest! The silhouette it creates is just blissful, non?
13. Wear it Tight and Easy!
I admire Margiela’s take on the disco ball leggings. Its great for parties and events and it’s a perfect fashion forward piece provided that you wear a top that’s long enough to cover your crotch.
14. Gender Bending
I admire the ladies for borrowing their bfs cardigans and their dad’s plaid shirts, but I’ll be more than happy to see guys wearing some gender bending pieces like drape vests, leggings, ribbons, brooches, loose cotton shirts, semi-plunging tees, long flowy sheer cardigans that don’t shout “hey, I’m a trannyâ€.
“The biggest mistake a man can make when dressing is following other people’s advice. It’s up to him. Even if he ends up badly dressed. If he’s happy. It’s okay†– ETRO
So still the bottom line is be happy with how you dress! Happy holidays, Chictopians!
