Who would have thought eye glasses, staple of nerds, Clark Kent, and people with sensitive eyes would end up becoming such a hot fashion accessory? If you told me in high school, not to fret, that one day my four eyed fashion would someday be cool, and choosing my glasses over my contacts would be a no brainer, I would have called you crazy. Not anymore though! These days you don’t need a prescription, or a big budget, to get in on this geek chic trend. Just a pair of eyes, and a pair of specs is all you need. So pop out those contacts and reach for those coke bottles, they are a fashion DO. Here are five reasons why.
Reason #1
Think about how much better it would be for the planet if you switched back to glasses. Think about what all those plastic scraps you throw out, every time you open a new pair of contacts, and plastic lens cases needed, in addition to all the cleaning solution and the plastic containers it comes in, are doing to the environment. With good old fashioned glasses you don’t need to worry about any of that. You are helping the planet one glass lens at a time.
Reason #2
Glasses have become sexy. It started with the sexy librarian, and went straight to the red carpet. With celebrities like
Sarah Shahi, steaming up the red carpet in her glasses, women in glasses have become sexy than ever. This is reason enough for me. No more sleeping in your contacts to avoid putting on your glasses when you decide on having a sleepover. They go perfectly with any piece of lingerie.
Reason #3
Glasses can help you make the most out of the shape of your face. Glasses can help elongate a round face or add curves to an angular face. People who want to appear younger can choose a subtle cat eye shape, that’s slightly upswept on the outer corners. If you want to attract more attention to your eyes, you can choose darker chunkier frames. Wearing glasses also buys you at least another week, before absolutely having to get your eyebrows waxed.
Reason #4
Why stop at shoes and bags? Glasses are a fashion accessory. Frames come in all different shapes, sizes and styles. Chunky bright colored frames, add instant personality to any basic outfit. Dark Cat Eye frames, like these Nicole Miller, glasses, would take any little black dress, to the next level. The classic tortoise frame, like these Lucky Brand Maude glasses, will add to any vintage lovers wardrobe.
Reason #5
Aren’t four eyes better than two? What would Liz Lemon, be without her signature specs? Or how about Annie Hall, forever changing the way we looked at women’s fashion, glasses, and being a smart woman. Hasn’t Johnny Depp gotten hotter since he’s wearing his glasses? Lastly, and maybe even the most influential reason to ditch you contacts and grab your glasses, is Mr. Harry Potter himself. He’s been hailed as a role model by eye experts for making it fashionable for children and adults to wear glasses.
