It’s amazing how you’ve only been here for about 3 months but you’ve gained 700+ fans and Style Icon status! I believe that many Chictopians can relate to your personality and style. Can you tell us why you chose Chictopia as your first fashion outlet?
I came across Chictopia back when it first started, and it has always been a site I [frequently go] to gain inspiration. I never had the intention to share my outfits and regularly post on the site because I was never confident about myself. I didn’t think anyone would like my style. I wasn’t even someone who took pictures regularly, and I never even owned a compact point-and-shoot camera until late last year.
I decided that I needed to take more pictures of my life and keep them as memories because I realised how important they are to look back on in the future. My style and outfits change quite a bit over seasons and I thought it would be fun to make an outfit scrapbook. Somehow I gathered some confidence to share it online on Chictopia instead. I wasn’t aware of any other fashion outlet sites at the time, so Chictopia was an easy choice for me to begin with. I would like to say I am very honoured, thankful and humbled by the votes and fans. It’s honestly helped me have more confidence in myself and grow a deeper love for fashion.
Though your username is “Creepy_Stranger,” you don’t seem so creepy at all! How did the name come up?
Back when just about everyone was buzzing about Twitter, I was thinking about what would be a good name for my Twitter account. I only wanted an anonymous account, and my boyfriend was wearing one of his favourite t-shirt from Zara at the time – it has a pretty funky dude on it with a label called “Attractive Stranger”. I typed that in before realising it made me sound pretty full of myself, so I switched [from] attractive to creepy instead. I felt it was fitting as I may only use this account to stalk people lol. But yeah, it doesn’t have an awesome back story; it just shows how random I can be and its just one nick I’ve stuck around using :)!
We absolutely adore your romantic style; do you have any tips for Chictopians to find their own style?
I know it sound cliche, but always wear what you feel comfortable and stylish in. Whenever I go out, I try not to care about how people will judge me based on what I’m wearing. I think that confidence is paramount as it’s very important we experiment with our outfits and ideas as our personal style evolves.
That’s so true! It’s no wonder that you seem so natural at styling your looks. Where do you get your inspiration or muse from?
I don’t have one particular muse that I get my inspiration from, more like several celebrity fashion muses like Leighton Meester, Kate Bosworth, and Mary Kate Olsen.
These days I get my inspiration from fellow Chictopians and fashion bloggers. The blogs I frequent are Denni from chicmuse.blogspot.com, Nicole from garypeppervintage.blogspot.com, Rumi from fashiontoast.com
I used to get my inspiration from magazines, but I haven’t bought a fashion magazine for over a year. I’ve been overwhelmed with finishing my thesis at Uni and also working. It’s only recently in April that I decided not to pursue further studies. It’s so far been the best decision I’ve ever made.
Can’t agree more. So, what is your favourite outfit to this date?
I would say the Vintage Shorts (here) piece is my favourite photo taken so far because it was a great shot of the outfit, and the setting of the warm sunlight behind me was perfect. Outfitwise, it would be Miu Miu Fontis (here) or Blazer and Lita (here).
Yay for starting up your own fashion blog, Chloe’s Addiction! Can you tell us a bit about the blog?
Since I started posting on the site, I’ve had many comments left on my post asking if I had a blog and asking me to get one! I’ve always planned to make one eventually, but I always told myself that it can wait cause I was busy applying for jobs and attending interviews during that time. When July came around and I got a message in my inbox telling me I’ve been nominated for the month’s Style Icon, I was overjoyed! Up until I read the instructions that I need to post a badge on my blog, I [realized that I] didn’t have one! To make matters worst, I was moving, had some issues to settle back at Uni, and was about to start a new job.
So I panicked but thankfully my boyfriend’s works in the IT department and is pretty good with this stuff so I got him to set me up a domain and blog ASAP. It was up and running within 6 hours! I stuck to my [real] name instead of Creepy_Stranger cause I didn’t want to give off the wrong vibe. So far, I am only blogging [about] my outfits. I plan to blog more of my favourite day-to-day activities there, such as baking, cooking yummy food, and traveling. I hope to share that with friends and readers on my blog as well :)!
We’ll surely be checking your blog frequently! Since being a Style Icon, have you thought about pursuing your fashion dreams?
Yes, yes, yes!! I want to; my dream is to one day own a store :)! In a perfect world, it would be awesome to design my own clothes and shoes. I plan to take on some fashion design and sewing lessons as I know I will really enjoy them. Having said that, I still love my current job and find it refreshing to juggle between the two worlds :).
What four staple items are must haves in your closet?
1. Blazer or some super comfy and pretty cardigan.
2. Bags (like designer bags)!
3. A pair of stylish and comfy boots (i.e., Jeffrey Campbell boots).
4. Rings (i.e., YSL rings).
Not only is your style impeccable, so is your skin! How do you keep your skin glowing? Any beauty tips for Chictopians?
I’ve suffered from acne since my teenage years so my skin is definitely not awesome! I drink lots of water daily and avoid fried food. I go for skin treatments regularly to keep my skin under control. I visit my dermatologist to get microdermabrasion done once in a month. My skin definitely glows after the treatment. Other than that, I do use some topical acne treatment, such as Benzoyl Peroxide and Retinoid if I need to. Also, most importantly I’ll definitely put on powder before taking photos; that [will] fix all the problems. The mineral powder that I use for every photo is: Jane Iredale mineral powder. It works wonders. Sometimes I use Laura Mercier mineral primer before I put on the powder.
What are your five necessities that you can’t live without?
1. Facial Cleanser & Moisturiser
2. Eye cream
3. iPhone
4. Camera
5. Of course my laptop for uploading photos!
Lastly, we know you love fashion, so if you could raid anybody’s closet, whose would it be?
This is a very hard one Crystal! I could name so many celebrities, fashion bloggers, and fellow Chictopians whose closet I would like to dive into. If it’s only going to be one person, right now it would be Rumi from fashiontoast.com. She’s got everything that I want, especially her shoes! I have a insane love for shoes and I wish to own a pair of designer’s shoes [one day]!
