Well, the Thrift Town plans fell through so I’m resorting to Plan B: how to wear thrifted vintage items. Here are a few outfits I’ve posted before to help you guys get started!
1. Pair oversized tops with skinny jeans or leggings
To avoid looking like a frumpy sack, balance it out with bottoms that cling to your legs! This outfit is also perfect for days when you’re feeling lazy or bloated. I purchased this colorful oversized top is from Salvation Army recently for $4.
2. Pair secretary blouses with a modern mini
Vintage silk blouses can be amazing but tend to look dated when they’re paired with certain pieces. Tucking one into a shorter skirt (like my H&M one in the picture) can make it look more modern rather than something a grandma would wear (not that there’s anything wrong with that…). This polka dot shirt that was $3 from Salvation Army also helps satisfy my craving for those CDG sweaters I missed out on..
3. Pair a vintage dress with some fierce heels
Unfortunately I lack a pair of crazy chic platforms so my trusty knot wedges will have to suffice. For those of you who do own a pair of fierce heels, try pairing them with a vintage dress as another way to add a modern touch to a potentially dated outfit. Dress was $5 and also from Salvation Army. Another vintage dress + modern heels combination can be found here.
4. Hike up frumpy skirts for a high waisted look
I’ll post two pictures for this one since I’m running dry on creativity and can’t come up with a fifth look to write about. Something I wish I could have done sooner during the summer was turn my knee length skirts into shorter ones by hiking them up to right below my boobs! It also works well for fall and winter looks when paired with tights as you can see in the first pic! The black skirt with buttons is from Salvation Army for $4 and the green one is from Thrift Town for $3.
I’m starting to get a little worried about this slump since it’s affecting my ability to make lists in multiples of 5! (I’m obsessive complusive, haha). Hopefully my creative juices will start flowing once I visit my beloved Thrift Town again?
