10. No One Bought Lady Gaga’s $20,000 Dress
Last week, Gilt Groupe decided to list the dress that Gaga modeled in during Nicola Formichetti’s Mugler’s runway show for sale. Although the dress did get some clicks, no one ended up buying it. Was it due to its hefty $20,000 price? Maybe, but we think it’s because people were too busy bidding on Princess Beatrice’s $130,000 hat last week.
09. Confirmed: Kate Middleton is a Fashionista
Very few people can wear a dress and have it sold out immediately – unless you’re Kate Middleton. Kate was seen wearing a Reiss Shola bandage dress during her meeting with the Obamas at the Buckingham Palace earlier this week. Once the photos surfaced online, the dress was immediately sold out and the website crashed twice. Vivienne Westwood probably regrets doubting Kate’s elegant style.
08. Chanel’s Got Beef
Beef jerky that is. While the average person may not be able to afford a $1,000 Chanel bag, maybe she can afford the alternative – a Chanel bag made out of beef jerky. Nancy Wu, a student from the Art Center College of Design sewed the jerky pieces so meticulously that from far away, you’d think it was a croc-skinned Chanel. Looks enticing to eat and wear – unless you’re a vegetarian that is.
07. Transform Your Shoes Into Louboutins Instantly!
Everybody knows that Louboutins are not famous for its sleek design or leather materials, but rather for its red sole. Tara Haughton, who’s only 16 years old, is selling these stick-on red soles so that you can easily imitate that Louboutin look on your own pair of heels. Let’s just hope she doesn’t actually get sued by the fashion house. Why not match your “new” Louboutins with a pair of versatile motel shorts? We’re sure you’ll be turning heads with this ensemble.
06. Urban Outfitters is a Major Copycat
Turns out UO’s recent jewelry collection, “I Heart Destinations” is a total copycat of Stevie Koerner’s United/World of Love Line which features pendants that are shaped like different countries and states of the U.S.A. When the news went viral and spread like wildfire, Urban Outfitters immediately took down the jewelry collection on their website. Guess UO figured the consequences weren’t worth the couple of sales.
05. 6 Disney Makeup Looks That’ll Make You Go WOW!
Beyonce-inspired makeup, Lady Gaga-inspired makeup – you’ve seen it all. But, you’ve seen nothing yet! Here’s a makeup artist that combines our fascination for Disney movies and true artform with some eyeshadows and eyelids. Our favourite? The Circle of Life with baby Simba!
04. Manolo Blahnik’s “Still Trying to Make It”
We’d think that Mr. Blahnik is already it, but in a recent chat with the peeps at Savannah College of Art and Design, he revealed that he’s “still trying to make it.” We’re not sure if he’s trying to be humble or if he really meant it – nonetheless the statement is quite a shock for us. Also, what was even more shocking is this: he thinks $1,500 shoes “look more like furniture” than footwear. No wonder we love this man!
03. Selena Gomez Wears Spanx
Selena Gomez is usually known for her carefree spirit and girl-next-door looks. But we were surprised to see her in a black sultry Dolce & Gabanna cutout dress during the Billboard Music Awards. What was even more shocking is that she was actually wearing spanx underneath that dress.. Known for her naturally thin figure, who would have thought she needed the tightening underwear?
02. European Women Don’t Mind Wrinkles
It’s inevitable to feel old especially having to deal with crow’s feet and wrinkles. But, it may only depend on which side of the world you’re living. According to one study done by Merz Aesthetics, Europeans tend not to mind looking their age whereas Allure’s study showed 93% of the American women felt more pressure to look younger. Does this fare true to you, Chictopians?
01. Models Photographed Without Makeup
Like a car crash, we can’t help ogle at photos taken of celebrities without their makeup on. That’s what Vogue UK did earlier this week by displaying a series of black and white photos of models – without any styling, makeup, and photoshopping. It’s quite exhilarating to see eye bags instead of handbags on these models for a change.
