the style: FLOPPY 70s HAT
Huge floppy hats are great for the summer. They protect your face and shoulders from the sun since they have such a wide brim and cover a lot of skin. These hats are diverse style wise. They can be worn with long maxi dresses in a boho chic look, or you can go totally preppy and formal (think Kentucky Derby). It depends on the material and color of the hat, and if it has any embellishments. If you want something casual, go for a straw floppy hat, or one toned hats. If you want something formal, find a hat with a more structured shape and with embellishments such as a rose or silk ribbon.

the style: BOATER
This nautical hat will look great with striped shirts and shorts in the summer. It’s a more retro, so pair it with things like high waisted shorts so you get that vintage feel. The boater hat also looks great with gingham, as seen on the Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 runway. It has almost a ‘Mary Poppins’ feel to it, yes?

the style: FEDORA
Probably the most popular and easy to wear of these hat styles, the fedora is a classic shape. Its iconic shape has been seen in many places. Probably the most famous is on Indiana Jones (what is a post about fedoras without Indiana?), and also seen on the late Michael Jackson. This typical men’s style has seen a resurgence in the last years for women. It is probably because of its diversity. It looks great with a simple button down and cropped shorts, or dressed up with a blazer and khakis.

the style: COWGIRL
You don’t have to own a horse or a pair or riding boots to rock this one. Cowgirl style hats are great for the summer, even with clothes that aren’t western themed. This style is great for the beach, paired with some aviators. It will cover you up from the harsh rays and looks great as an accessory. Pair it with some cropped shorts or a maxi dress and you’ll be ready to hit the sand.
