The newest “it” pant for spring is the slouchy trouser (skinny jean naysayers, rejoice), the more tailored cousin of the harem pant. They walked (in various fabric, colour and print incarnations) all over the spring runways, including Karen Walker , Marc by Marc Jacobs , Alexander Wang and Isabel Marant , among others.
This relaxed take on the traditional trouser has since popped up all over the place on Chictopians and bloggers in a variety of styles and colours, this loose-fitting trouser might just become your go-to for cool, casual, chic springtime looks.
On the runways, the slouchy trouser style took many forms – from loose flat fronts to softly folded pleats or paper bag waists, to peg to straight to tapered legs and then to a cropped wide-leg style at Marc by Marc Jacobs. There were even gently draped pajama style drawstring trousers strolling lazily down the runway at Karen Walker. With such an array of slouchy choices to satisfy even the choosiest fashion palate, one question remains: How do you style them?
The slouchy trouser looks that strolled down the runway featured all sorts of different styling choices – fitted tops, blouses, crop tops, similarly slouchy tops, blazers of varying types and of course, classic tees. Essentially, these styles can easily fit into any wardrobe and lend themselves to a myriad of styling choices.
If you are looking for some real life style inspiration, you need look no further than your fellow chictopians, who add tons of creativity and some serious sartorial expertise to their slouchily stylish trousers. Style Icon Coury paired her trousers with a crop top and then changed things up with a boxy ruffled blouse . Stephanie from Beaux Mondes kept her look classically chic, pairing her more tailored zara version of the slouchy trouser with a button-up blouse and sweater. KimriB23 went for a simple look with a skinny belt and the perfect white tank. For a more bohemian interpretation, you could follow the example of SimplyHope who added a draped lace top for a softly summery outfit. One thing is certainly clear – with a slouchy trouser in your closet, the possibilities for relaxed summer style are endless!
