I’ve been wearing a lot of colors lately particularly RED so I decided to give the dynamic rainbow bright color palette a rest for a day and go back to what is essential… BLACK.
Black will always be the new black!
My brother commended me on having guts to wear an all black ensemble. When I was trying it on and asking his opinion (since I trust his style so much), he commented that I looked totally fierce and that the outfit worked miraculously though he expected it not to when I mentioned it was all black. But he was glad to be wrong in this case.
I will always still love black. No matter what colors I experiment with, black will always be THE wardrobe staple and almost everything works in this color except for maybe a wedding dress. My closet is made up of a lot of blacks especially skirts, shirts and little black dresses (I have the most dresses in black!!!) simply because it is very effortless and dynamic. Style it up with a different set of accessories, and it ends up looking like an entirely different piece of clothing. Right?
Not to mention that it is dramatic and totally versatile.
The Highlight of my day was that I bought amazingly gorgeous shoes from Zara today thanks to our informant who texts when they have a new shipment. I saw these “just arrived” gorgeous strappy black heeled sandals with silverish studs and embellishments and I could not resist but take ‘em home with me! Thank God for the privilege of getting to pick first… seriously, that’s why I am very close with the salesladies in stores…they’re my eyes and ears! ! I find myself buying more shoes than clothes from Zara lately! This is probably because I support local designers for clothes more. The pair I got today was totally fabulous! And I cannot wait to wear them!!! They are magical on my feet!
I was feeling very under the weather today due to sore throat and a runny nose. Had to take medications for these symptoms but even sickness won’t dampen my love for dressing up! I felt totally Euro-chic today when I headed off to my favorite place to have a classy night out with my guy. So, I decided to pay tribute to one of my most favorite style blogs, the sartorialist by coming up with the ensemble. I remember one photo of a girl in an all black ensemble and purple shoes and I decided to re-do that look with a bit of my edge and attitude.
I was originally planning to wear Purple Satin Stiletto Heels with the black outfit but my friend, Nicole Young who owns retail store and Rockwell Urban Bazaar concession also found online at The Librarian’s Multiply Account sent over these awesome lilac strappy gladiator sandals that I ordered like a month ago to my house this morning and the minute that I put them on my feet, I didn’t want to take them off. I couldn’t. They were too pretty!
My mom was practically laughing at me since I was walking around in our house in these shoes and my pjs like nothing. She totally said that she gets it… that I loved the shoes but me prancing around with them in pjs was too much to bear. It was such a classic moment.
So after a while, I took ’em off and decided to wear them for the night out. I watched the Meg Ryan/ Anette Benning/ Jada Pinkett-Smith and Debra Messing comedy The Women and ended up liking it so much I was practically laughing out loud the whole time since everything they did was so familiar it reminded me of my friends and I.
Chick flicks are a guilty pleasure.
But not the heavy drama movies.
I love comedies!
It was a good two hours of cattyness, name calling and crazy ‘WOMEN’ things that were all so familiar and true that I totally enjoyed while my boyfriend was just squirming in his seat wondering why he agreed to watch it with me in the first place. He could not relate since there was not a single scene in the movie with a guy present. At one point, I saw him wishing he watched Passengers instead…. But he did say he learned a thing or to about girls so I have to give him credit for that.
Anyway, I mixed and match black clothing articles from my closet like the button down shirt with the studded belt and the Mango skirt with tulle and lace. It was a tad too short to wear alone and I was not feeling too showy that night so I added leggings to complete the look and to keep me warm. Finished off with the wonderful shoes I got from Nicole (as mentioned earlier) and a Vivienne Westwood North South Argyle Bag in Purple (A bag I totally missed using and forgot about!)
I hope it worked in the non gothic/ creepy kind of way!
The shoes were meant to brighten up the look and break the monotony.
At the end of the day, I really love how I felt in these clothes!
That’s all the matters right?
Lemme know what you think! XOXO
Song inspiration: NEW SHOES by Paolo Nutini
_Woke up cold one Tuesday,
I’m looking tired and feeling quite sick,
I felt like there was something missing in my day to day life,
So I quickly opened the wardrobe,
Pulled out some jeans and a T-Shirt that seemed clean,
Topped it off with a pair of old shoes,
That were ripped around the seams,
And I thought these shoes just don’t suit me.
Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody’s smiling,
It’s so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I’m running late,
And I don’t need an excuse,
‘cause I’m wearing my brand new shoes.
Woke up late one Thursday,
And I’m seeing stars as I’m rubbing my eyes,
And I felt like there were two days missing,
As I focused on the time,
And I made my way to the kitchen,
But I had to stop from the shock of what I found,
A room full of all off my friends dancing round and round,
And I thought hello new shoes,
Bye bye them blues.
Take me wandering through these streets,
Where bright lights and angels meet,
Stone to stone they take me on,
I’m walking to the break of dawn._
