Flight of Fancy

Is it okay to love birds on my clothing, bedding, jewelry and accessories, but to dislike actual birds? I am not a fan of these bi-winged creatures. Truth be told, I am a little scared of them – carrying diseases, swooping towards your head, squawking at you while you try and sleep at the beach…etc. In reality, birds are my least favorite class in the animal kingdom, but they’re my most favorite in artistic portrayal. Symbolic in many ways – the dove for peace, the swallow for rebirth, the owl for wisdom and virtue, etc – I have convinced myself that in theory birds are wonderful, beautiful, wearable creatures. Our feathered acquaintances (I still won’t consider them friends) are extremely fashionable this spring- light, airy and most importantly inanimate.
