The Spring season is creeping up on us fast and the biggest trend of 2011 is the presence of all colors, but not in the normal sense. White is the mixture of the entire spectrum of colors in light and its rise in fashion as of late is understandable; white represents purity and cleanliness which makes it a natural starting point of minimalism but it also represents bravery, softness, and hope which work to mix white with all sorts of different styles and looks. Trend Mix is about taking different trends and putting them together to create a unique style. Interpretation is the most important factor here making the white trend a perfect candidate with it’s varying symbolic meanings.

Trend Origins
The 1990s were all about minimalism and white was at the center of this look championed by Calvin Klein and other houses. The use of white took away the distraction of print or color and put the emphasis on silhouette and line. This all white minimalist viewpoint made an appearance for the Spring 2009 Haute Couture season at Chanel. This was the beginning of white as a major player in recent fashion but it definitely was not the defining point. White becomes the shining star of fashion this season where even the kings of darkness painted their black frocks a stark white color, literally; Alexander Wang (whose models’ hair were painted white), Rick Owens, and many others showed white in a more edgy way. With not only fashion loving white, but also technology (check Apple computers), it seems to truly be the non-color of the year. This season is filled with white and the looks ranged from minimalism to girly innocence, fellow Chictopians show how to mix up white in the best ways for Spring 2011.

Pure Rebellion Mix White with Relaxed Rebel
Christ_Nova- serves up fierce in this all white shorts + shirt combo (romper-esque look) which provides a clean canvas for shiny patent leather in form of black belt and amazing strappy wedges. The look is a mixture of modern and mod with her gorgeous short haircut and bug eye google glasses.
PonyHunter is purely perfect with her soft take on a rebel yell of black and white. Her flowy skirt is completely current and is definitely a must have for Spring 2011. The skirt is toughened up by flat work boots and a big leather bag. This look is white hot.
The Look: Wear white slouchy pieces and mix them with edgier accessories.
Inspiring Shows: Bottega Veneta, Alexander Wang, Ann Demeulemeester

Ladylike Lights Mix White with Feminine Dresses
Momoy is downright angelic in this look, the pale colored dress is regal and Roman. For Spring 2011, white is not limited to a wedding dress! Everyday dressing up is definitely a great look that all Chictopians need to try.
AlyssaBird is Lolita meets ladylike in her all white outfit. The scalloped edge is so adorable, and completely on trend (check H&M’s Conscious Collection). Her white stockings add a bit of edge and flirtaciousness to the white, a great way to experiment.
The Look: Have fun with girly dresses and skirts. Mix up the textures with lace, eyelet, sheer, and more!
Inspiring Shows: Erdem, Charles Anastase, Chanel

Onirec’s menswear inspired look is so amazing we can’t even handle it. The all white look with touches of beiges, tans, and black make the look feel incredibly modern and chic.
Annebeth is Chanel-chic in her proper white button up and ribbon bow tie. Great for casual days of school, shopping, or going out to lunch with friends, milky colored menswear outfits are the right mix of feminine and masculine.
The Look: Boyish pieces like button ups and suits can add a tailored and classic feeling to white.
Inspiring Shows: Helmut Lang, Theyskens’ Theory, Viktor & Rolf

Simply Minimal Mix White with Minimalism and Dynamic Shapes
AshleyE shows Chictopia how to work white in the most edgy way possible, with minimal distraction and statement black lips (amazing!). A simple top and jeans is a great casual way to wear white but still make a statement in brightness… sans color.
MeggStatus’ coat is so ladylike and perfect. The silhouette and shape of the lapel make a statement in itself. For Spring 2011, take white to next levels with a longer length of skirt or light coat.
The Look: Embrace white and it’s connection to negative space, minimize accessories for a simple look that lets you make the statements.
Inspiring Shows: Calvin Klein, Jil Sander, Celine

All of the shows this season designed in completely different ways but all used white as a starting point for color inspiration. The Chictopians in the Style Gallery are definitely taking this lesson seriously, wearing white their own way. Trend Mix is all about interpreting the trends of the season, not blindly following the light… or white in this case. :)
