Suits
This should be your biggest style-wise concern. You need a great suit for the night, and there are many options for suits and places to get them.
First get an idea of the suit you want. Do want something plain and simple, which will just make you look good? Or do you want it to have a little personality, and maybe be a little playful? The most important thing to do is stay true to your style, you should be relatively comfortable at Prom!
The basic black suit is a no frills safe bet for prom. This basic will get you through prom if you’re not looking for anything too fancy. If you are on the less bulky side, a slim cut suit is my favorite on guys.
If you are looking to stand out a little bit more, a grey suit is a good option too. It is less boring than black, and works with most dress colors. These two choices will get any style-challenged guy by for prom. And just follow this basic rule if you’re still confused: Run your suit by your date!
Now for our more daring men, these ideas are a tad more risky, but I’m sure you can pull them off.
Switch out the collared shirt for a denim shirt .Add a bowtie and this small change will add a lot of character to your look. Justin Timberlake pulled this off on the red carpet.
A checkered suit is really versatile. It can be subtle checkers, like the one linked above, or you could go crazy with prominent checkers like Joe Jonas did. If you do try and recreate Joe’s style, make sure to run it by your date to make sure you don’t clash.
Still need some inspiration? Watch some Mad Men and get a load of Don Draper’s style.
Getting the suit
If you think your money is better spent not buying a suit, rental one is probably the way to go.
Before you go to your rental store, get a basic idea of what you want in the suit so you can lower your options. Print out pictures of some suits you’ve seen that you liked so you can show them to whoever is helping you.
Then plan ahead, it may sound ludicrous but you should get your suit rental sorted out a month to two in advance. Why? Prom season is hectic and you want to get the best picks in suits, so get to your rental store early so you can make sure you get your suit size.
Since you’re planning ahead, it gives you time to shop around in your area for the best suit deal. Go two multiple stores and look at their selection and quality of suits. If you find a winner, place it on deposit so it’s ready for prom!
Your Hair and Corsages…
If you need a trim get it cut in advance, not the day before. If something goes horribly wrong at the salon, you wouldn’t want that being in your pictures right?
Cutting your hair ahead of time also gives you the chance to figure out how to style your hair. Play around with some gel, try and go for something neat. If this fails head for a trusted girlfriend or go to a professional hairdresser.
Now, don’t forget the corsage! Plan ahead with this one too. A wrist corsage is more favored by the ladies, so go for that. And collaborate with your date on what color you think will compliment her dress the most, and don’t forget to see if your dress matches too!
