Spring is here—flowers are in bloom, cheeks are flush full of love, and your step is spry and suddenly lighter. But what if you are allergic to floral, nauseated by pink and live in your ole faithful Docs? Well then allow this guide to shed some light!
Burberry did a phenomenal job contorting the tired military trend into a sophisticated biker chic. Think leather when it comes to this look.
You’ll want to start by finding the perfect leather jacket. This Topshop Biker Jacket is a great basic piece that you will certainly get a lot of use from. I’d suggest branching out from black though, since it does tend to not feel fresh in the Spring. Try this caramel option or even a khaki green jacket. The key elements you will want to look for are detailed sleeves (buckles and zippers), a slim silhouette, more zipper detail, and quilted stitching.
The next hunt you should begin is for a great pair of leather pants. At Burberry we noticed a lot of detailing and high impact shine. Watch for zipper pockets, like this nude pair. Or splurge on these Balmain motocross pants. ASOS makes a slightly more cost-efficient pair.. as well.
When it comes to shoes think contrast. The soft look of suede booties or heels will look nice against the sleek leather. And if you are looking to replace you Doc’s, these Chanel biker boots are the ultimate in luxury.
A Study in Volume
Skirts aren’t really your thing, well then check out the new pant! Wide-legged pants make a great alternative to voluminous skirts. They can take you from casual to a more formal affair with only a slight tweak. And a high-waisted pair are the perfect complement to cropped tops.
For a downtown cool, pair a rust pair of wide-legged pants with a vintage-esque rocker shirt. If you are on the classical side, try a navy pair of trousers with a slim, long-sleeved white shirt. And for your next vacation pack a pair of pleated white pants and a crocheted bright tank. This look also ties in beautifully with the seventies vibe that is happening in fashion right now. And who wasn’t cool in the seventies?!
When it comes to shoes think HIGH. Platforms, chunky soles, wooden heels, again very 70’s. You’ll need the extra lift to keep from swimming in this look.
Everyone needs a print in their wardrobe at one time or another. Bold, nautical stripes are your friend this spring.
Keep with the biker trend by matching your striped tank with a pair of cropped leather pants. For those that are beach bound or just need an escape from the heat, pair a retro bikini with a khaki pair of mid-rise chinos (bonus points for rolling the ankles). And to channel your inner Bardot, work a three-quarter sleeved sweater with a curve-hugging pair of cropped jeans.
Flats are best with this look, they tie in nicely with the casual vibe. Loafers, sandals, brogues, even school yard sneakers!
With this newfound knowledge you can now go out and begin looking for the pieces you will center your spring wardrobe around. But do remember, this guide is only a springboard! Don’t be afraid to experiment and mix and match these looks.
