This outfit today was inspired by 15th century court dress of Burgundy, the Italian Renaissance, and French Rococo. When I look at old historical paintings, I always find my eye being drawn towards the clothes and fashion of the figures before anything else. Historical fashion and costume is so fascinating and often inspires outfits that I put together. Fashion designers now are always looking back to the past to get their inspiration, so why not take cues from the masters for your personal style?
Today I wanted to play around with layering and structure. The temperature has dropped this week, so wearing another sweater underneath my blazer was fine. If you’ve worn the same skirt (structured similarly to mine) over and over again and you feel tired of the same look~you can try using safety pins to pin folds of your skirt or dress up to give it a different look. Here I have used three safety pins to pin up the top tulle layer of my skirt onto my white dress tunic to reveal the underskirt beneath. It gives my skirt a new look that’s not permanent and easily changed back to its original form at the end of the day.
It’s also fun to layer stockings and socks together. You don’t have to wear one or the other. You can layer both together to give an more fun look.
