One of our most angelic style icons since last summer is meganroses. With her modern, soft, flowy and overall chic outfits, she shows us how to be casually chic on a daily basis, a style that will suit everybody. Although we all envy her gorgeous (ombré) hair, Megan is a lovely person with a great personality.

favorite Chictopian inspiration Currently I’m inspired most by Oraclefox. She has amazing style and photos. Other Chictopians I’ve always loved are Playingwithfire and Jujubabyy.
favorite post of your own Bridges-., it’s something I would wear everyday if the weather permitted; flowy chiffon and shorts. I also like how the photo turned out.
Why did you first start blogging about fashion? Upon discovering Chictopia and then others’ individual blogs, I just knew I wanted to start one as well. I started an account on chictopia right away but held back on DonatilaRose until I had an idea of how I would share everything to everyone. Blogging is such a fun way to express my passion for fashion. I hate how that rhymes but there is no other way to put it. lol.
How would you describe your own signature style? It’s hard to describe my own signature style. I wear whatever I love and what I’m in the mood for at the moment. I’m always marveling at old photographs from the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s whether it are my mother’s old photos or Vogue editorials. I’ve always had a love for those decades and my style is greatly influenced by them. I guess I’d call my style romantic hippie with a bit of an edge…is that cheesy?
Nope it is not, I love how you outlined your style. Tell us about your blog, what makes it stand out? My blog is basically about all my rantings about fashion; what I’m loving, what’s inspiring me and what I just bought. My posts have mostly been about what I wore that day. For a while my photos have been taken against a white wall in my backyard and I was never really content with that but another blogger once commented to me that the fact that my photos are about what I am wearing and not about its setting, but they still stand out, is a good thing. I have actually been able to go out to different locations for the last few posts. They’ve been really fun and I’m much more interested in photography now. I just wish I had a better camera and also that I was better at HTML.
I do love all your pictures, the ones with the wall and the other ones. Do you have any tips on how to improve pictures? Thank you :) I focus on how I crop my photos and I like adding the vignette border. I will also add a tint sometimes to give it a vintage look. Since I was always limited to where I’m able to take my photos, those were the only options I had to add whatever drama or feel I could to my photos. My best photos are taken outside when it’s sunny but under the shade. Tips to appear taller in photographs are of course to wear higher heels but also how you place the camera. It should be held about 3 1/2 ft – 4 ft high. I have both my husband and my daughter take my photos. When my husband’s schedule permits, he will take a course in photography just for my blog. My daughter has been my photographer for the last few shoots where we’ve gone to different locations. I tell her where to stand and she just shoots. She’s really good at directing and giving feedback! She’s also the perfect height for my ‘tall trick’ ;) Her shots are usually my favorite ones.
I love that your husband wants to do that for you and how your daughter “supports” you with those gorgeous photographs!! Have you ever been inspired by a fellow Chictopian in the way you went to a store and bought the same item? Definitely, when I see that someone found a good deal, like the Cynthia Vincent wedges for $30 at target last spring or that Forever21 came out with faux leather shorts for $18 back in August, I’m all over it. I really appreciate a heads up on deals like that.
What would be your general advice for a new Chictopian? Be involved in the community and network. Always be positive and genuine when commenting. It’s always nice and encouraging to give kind comments and what you throw out always comes back to you. Don’t add “check out my blog” or “fan me” at the end the compliment. In trying to stand out, show who you are. Always go with your gut feeling. When trying out a trend, don’t lose your style in it. Feeling comfortable and playing it safe are two different things.
Those are great tips! Did you ever dream about a career in fashion? Yes, I still do. I worked at Forever 21 as a visual merchandiser when I was in college and I am planning to open up an online store soon. To be a buyer is what I want ultimately as my career.
Your blog is called DonatilaRose, named after your mother combined with your middle name. How is your relationship with your mother, does fashion run in the family? My mother is the main influence in everything I do and who I am, so with my sense of style, it’s no exception. My sister is also into fashion and inspired by our mother. I have two daughters, 5 and 7 and they’re already into fashion. I love dressing them but they’ve actually been choosing to dress themselves lately. I’m a little bit of a control freak but I have to say they impress me sometimes! My mother was a teen in the 60’s and she was in college in the 70’s. I really wished she saved all her clothes and shoes. In college she designed her own clothing and had her landlady downstairs sew them together. Her colleagues often approached her for her clothes and sense of style. I think that may be why I’m into those decades so much and so it was just befitting to name it after her.
I love the earring-necklace you made with the soft colored feathers; the colors are so “you”. Why is it that you find yourself buying earrings, but then not wear them? (I am exactly the same at the moment by the way ;)) Haha Well I always wear a necklace, my casio watch, a bangle/bracelet and rings. Then when I try to add anything more, it starts to feel like too much. I just can’t ever resist a really cute pair when I find one. And my hair always hides them anyway.
What was your favorite trend of 2010? Oh gosh, clogs! I think I wore a pair in just about every post last year. Another thing I got really into last year and still am are bed jackets/chiffon blazers/kimonos. Those are the two items I have ridiculous amounts of in my closet right now.
What is the trend of 2011 you look forward to? I love that all of the buzz is about the 70’s! I recently bought a couple more bell-bottoms including a lace pair! I want a bunch of off the shoulder peasant tops; bell sleeved blouses and long floral wide leg flowy pants.
It is almost as if you inspired this years trends in a way, they seem to be made for you. Megan, I would love to thank you for this interview, I apologize that you had to wait so long for me to upload it and I hope you will achieve all your goals in life!
Thank you for reading Chictopians!!
