Rainy days always ignite a fashion challenge; it’s hard enough choosing an outfit from day to day but throwing rain into the mix presents a new problem of what to wear. Keep on reading to find out helpful tips for these dull days, and how to stay chic and waterproof!
The Basics
The basic formula for a rainy day outfit is: cute coat, plus some boots and an umbrella. You can mix and match the other parts of your outfit (look below!).
Your jacket will keep your dry and warm, so look out for a good one. This Michael by Michael Kors one is a great basic and is all weather. If you invest in this it is sure to help you with many rainy days to come. Another option is this pale pink windbreaker from Gap. It’s different than all the black coats you usually see on the street and can still keep you dry. Also try a pleather jacket, it can stand the rain.
Classic Hunter Boots will keep your feet nice and dry (add some socks to keep them toasty too!). Wellies like this will complete a rainy day ensemble. If you can’t part from your beloved flats, even when it is pouring, get these flat waterproof flats from Dav.
And now for the most important part of the outfit, your umbrella. Try out a printed umbrella to make you stand out, like these. Or this tiny umbrella is great to stash in your bag for all the unexpected downpours.
How to Keep it Chic
You might reach for you jeans when it starts to pour, but not so fast! Try bright dress with a jacket like chicchicchicjb and deboraTB. With the dress, or an oversized top, add some patterned leggings or bright tights to lighten up the day like Lanton did. They will also dry faster than jeans if they get soaked.
And remember to layer! Pile on those scarves and sweaters to keep you warm. HallieDaily’s outfit is a great example of this.
Pops of color are great to brighten up gloomy days. Try some bright rain boots or umbrellas, or even shorts like featherweight did.
What not to Wear
- Leather Boots: if it’s pouring, you better put these away! Or you could water proof them…
- Flared Jeans: Unless you’re wearing some sort of heel, the bottoms of these jeans are probably going to get wet. Stick to skinny jeans or something you can tuck into boots.
- Light Colors: They might show some water spots.
- Suede: same as leather!
But basically, be wary of what you wear when it rains, we don’t want to ruin our favorite pieces. If you have something super special that you are dying to wear, try and save it for a sunny day that’s sure to come by soon!
