One of the last few shows I attended during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York is Carlos Miele Fall Winter 2011. Designer Carlos Miele combined tridimensional surfaces, overlays and a clash of colors. Though the line is mostly gowns, we saw a lot of jumpsuits and harem pants in his collection. The use of luxurious colors, velvets, fur and silk were in abundance in all his 30 looks.
Carlos Miele Fall Winter 2011 collection combined light and dark colors with graphic stripes and satellite images in beautiful drapery. The rich textures in velvet and fur were balanced out with silk, charmeuse and chiffon blouses and tops. The jumpsuits were beautifully draped on top and transitions to harem pants at the bottom. We’re loving the red wrap dress in photo 2 as well as the harem-like blush velvet pants combined with an orange-like nude chiffon top with that section fox fur cape.
One of the accessories that struck me the most were the use of oversized headwraps or basically – hoods! If we are experiencing the Turban Trend at the moment, will the oversized headwraps be the next big head trend next Fall? The designer makes use of it not only in his jumpsuits but with his gowns and coats as well. In addition to that, he topped off the outfits with rope-like thin antique silver-beaded belts and wider velvet belts, giving a beautiful form to each of his pieces in the collection.
Makeup and Beauty
Makeup was done by Gato for Maybelline New York while the hair was done by Rodney Cutler for Cutler – Ulta. Since the collection was already all glammed up by the rich textures and luxurious colors, they went for a clean and simple look. The makeup made use of nude tones and a bit of subtle gold and bronze shades with creamy nude lips. The hair was tied back to a streamlined braided ponytail.
