Cynthia Rowley Fall/Winter 2011 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week opened with bubbly pop music while two models walked bare in their skin colored, satin underwear—although instead of walking down the runway, they just walked in circles around the back while the fully clothed models came down the runway in Rowley’s eclectic designs.
In an interview, Cynthia Rowley said that her Fall/Winter 2011 collection was inspired by Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character Lee Holloway from the sexy and quirky film “The Secretary”, “who is frail on one hand, yet incredibly tough and sexy on the other”.
This could explain the bare models repeatedly walking in their lingerie, giving off the impression that they were coming out dressed in Cynthia Rowley’s designs, strutting down the runway in Rowley’s luxurious faux fur coats, glitters, multicolored silk and velvet dresses. We saw the models bare, then getting dressed and coming out as strong, confident women.
The first look to come down the runway was a sheared taupe faux fur overcoat with a silk charmeuse dress paired with olive green calf boots. Immediately I knew that this show was going to have a mix of different types of materials and colors. Some of the stand out looks were from her collection were the deep olive maxi dresses that complimented the waist and the beautiful bodices paired with full silk skirts. Full of deep emeralds, greens, mustards and blues, velvets and silk, Rowley’s collection was an eclectic mixture of architectural and geometric dress patterns in multicolors. With all the model’s hair tied back in buns, there were definitely some sexy secretaries on the runway.
Stars in the front row included Lauren Bush, the granddaughter of George H.W. Bush, and Julia Stiles.
