Today I got the honor to attend Nicole Miller’s Fall/Winter 2011 fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City. As soon as the models walked out to the beat of peaceful pop music, a magical world revealed itself to me: it was the wonderland of basic colors, eye-catching materials and feminine silhouettes.
Nicole Miller, who is known for her modern, ageless aesthetic designs, presented a lot of geometrical shapes in combination with the colors red, blue, black and silver. In order to achieve a unique body consciousness she uses clean cuts and feminine silhouettes. Most pieces are figure hugging and emanate riches, sexiness and elegance. To make things more interesting she tends to go for asymmetry in combination with artfully draped fabrics and interesting use of color and material.
Nicole Miller tries to make her aesthetic accessible to a broader range of women and is all about beautifully cut garments that are highlighted by gracefully drawn prints and patches in order to create an artsy high fashion feel.
“With her background of art and couture, Nicole Miller has perfectly integrated her dresses into a fashion world of her own.” – quote Edressme
That quote really says it all in my opinion: her collection is all about haute couture located at a different world she created on her own, desirable by a wide audience. Eighteen or sixty-five, we would all look great in one of her pieces. This show was the best kick off for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I could have hoped for.
