The comedy TV series hit GLEE is not just a hub of talented singers. It’s also bursting with varying styles from feminine and sweet to preppy and sexy. Let’s take a look at some of the GLEE stars’ styles on and off cam.
Glee TV to Real Life: Rachel to Lea Michele
Glee’s lead character Rachel Barry can get annoying at times, but her preppy and sweet look is actually cute. If you’ve seen the 90’s film Clueless, you’ll actually think that some of her costumes are straight out of the movie.
DRESS LIKE Rachel: Pair button down shirts with knit/cable cardigans or sweaters. Mix it up with pleated skirts and wear knee high socks with some Mary Janes or clogs. Go for floral print dresses, plaid skirts, stripe tops and pastels.
In real life though, I would say that she’s a budding fashionista. She loves to take risks and seems like she would wear any trend. Be it a leather dress, a shimmering emerald green Naeem Khan dress, feathers, lace, bustier or sheer low neckline with a black lace bra peeking, Lea looks just oh so glamorous. And when she’s not gracing the red carpet? Her style is just as chic: a bohemian blouse with tailored jean shorts, wedges and a leather shoulder bag. And while vertically-challenged, she knows how to rework trends to fit her height. The right dress height and she can show of super long lean legs. I truly enjoyed looking through her photos the most because of her varying styles. Even in her choice of hairstyles, you’ll see she’s a risk-taker: blunt bangs, waves, straight, side swept, Hollywood glam, or even hair up in a bun.
DRESS LIKE Lea: For a casual bohemian vibe, try flowy floral tops and tie the bottom front. Wear your casual shorts with wedges and vintage-inspired shoulder bags. To dress it up a bit, a short trendy cocktail dress with high heels will make your legs look like a mile long. Glam it up with gorgeous waves.
Glee TV to Real Life: Kurt to Chris Colfer
Chris Colfer recently won a Golden Globe for his role as Kurt in Glee. And why wouldn’t he when he makes us laugh, cry (remember the episode when his Dad had a heart attack) and at the same time drool over his lust-worthy outfits just like a Marc Jacobs military jacket among other things? Kurt is the true fashionista in Glee and that’s what completes his role in the show – even if we dread seeing haute couture get slushied – it’s part of the “oh my gosh, waaaahhhh” moment.
DRESS LIKE Kurt: Go for fit trousers and top off with layers. A cashmere sweater or cardigan on top of a button down shirt with a tailored jacket will make you look well dressed like Kurt. Apply some hair products to keep your hair out of the face and looking clean.
In real life, he’s as dapper and well dressed. Chris Colfer carries himself well but takes the Kurt-styling down a notch for a more laid-back style. But when he goes to red carpet events, you would hardly see the difference between the TV character Kurt and real life Chris.
DRESS LIKE Chris: Wear skinny or straight-cut jeans with collared shirts or button downs and pair with skinny ties. Add a vest or a casual jacket or blazer for layers.
Glee TV to Real Life: Quinn to Dianna Agron
While Glee’s Quinn wears a cheerleader uniform almost all the time, her look portrays the statuesque beauty that other students look up to. She’s the head cheerleader who used to date the quarterback, so what do we expect, right? She gives that sexy and “mean-girl” vibe with a touch of innocence and sweetness at times. When she was cast off from the Cheerios, she dressed just like a very pure and sweet girl.
DRESS LIKE Quinn: Wear pastel floral dresses and layer up with a cardigan. Do a half pony to complete the look of Quinn’s sweet side. If you wanna toughen it up a bit, wear a short skirt with v-neck tees and complete it with white sneaks.
Dianna Agron in real life shows off a very Southern American style. Well, she’s from Georgia so it’s no surprise. She pairs lovely bohemian dresses with leather boots. But at the red carpet, it’s very obvious she has a love for neutrals and light colors. While she wears navy blues, yellows and other colors, we can’t help but notice that most of her choices on the red carpet are shades of blush, beige, white, champagne and a light shimmering gray. She’s always got that old Hollywood glamour in her.
DRESS LIKE Dianna: Pair short bohemian-inspired dresses with mid-calf boots like cowboy boots. Layer up with crocheted or knitted vests to complete the look. To dress up: choose a blush cocktail dress and cinch with a black belt and complete with some black heels.
Glee TV to Real Life: Finn to Cory Monteith
Cory Monteith plays the role of the high school hunk Finn. Finn usually wears jeans and some collared shirt underneath his football jacket. But when he’s not sporting his school spirit, his jock style is embodied by unbuttoned plaid shirts over round neck shirts.
DRESS LIKE Finn: Wear a round neck tee underneath a plaid button down and pair with jeans.
In real life, Cory shows off a more urban or metro style. He looks dapper wearing his suit but gives it that cool vibe with black sneakers. When not in the red carpet, hoodies and cardigans on top of cool print-tees are his staples. I personally prefer his real-life style.
DRESS LIKE Cory: Wear dark jeans with black sneakers. Pair round neck shirts with hoodies and cardigans in shades of black, gray, white and navy blues.
Other Notable Gleek Styles
- Emma played by Jayma Mays
Another notable Gleek style I love to watch is Emma’s. She’s got the mix of vintage, feminine and well-dressed style that sometimes has a hint of Parisienne flavor. Remember when she told Will about her resignation? She wore that cute Parisian-looking hat. Her style is so put-together, emphasizing how “OCD” her character is in the show.
- Will played by Matthew Morrison
Will’s style shows that casual and formal can go well together and balance each other out. With the help of casual jeans, long sleeves and tie becomes less formal. On the other hand, a business top can make everyday jeans look more appropriate for work.
- Tina played by Jenna Ushkowitz
Tina is the Goth girl in the show. She actually mixes hip hop, preppy, rock and goth so well. Who would have thought that a preppy plaid skirt can look so goth when worn with black fishnet gloves, black velvet or silk cardigan and studded leather accessories? Be it preppy, hip hop, casual or rock, she manages to add that Goth style with the color choices and accessories.
