This picture was taken during the video shoot my boyfriend and I were doing for our band’s song “Eyelidblanketpark” which we will be putting out soon on a 7" record. The song is a dreamy, shoegazey song with cascading, distorted analog synthesizers, chiming guitar (played by me), and echoing, spacey vocals. The video is going to be abstract and dreamy, with lots of footage shot in the snowy forest of DC’s huge park, Rock Creek Park.

anyhow, ABOUT THE OUTFIT -
This dress is probably the coolest thing I have ever bought for the least amount of money. It’s an incredible, floor length satin gown, trimmed with white faux fur, with princess seaming and shank buttons from the waist all the way up in the back – and it fits me perfectly. It is from the 1950s and it cost me $6.95! It’s not very practical, but it is beyond amazing and it cost as much as a deli sandwich!
This hat is but a poor shadow of the hat it is replacing, an amazing Mongolian style hat, also from Hungary, with needle felted appliques, that I bought at an antique store and then lost on the bus a couple years later. That was one of my most heartbreaking losses of 2010, coming in after 1) my bird and before 3) my job. Yes, the loss of that hat was more devastating to me than the loss of my job (as a legal assistant) because that job was so boring. Anyway, the hat I am wearing in this picture is a red wool knitted hat with a wide black faux fur border.
The earrings and necklace are both antique/vintage in turquoise and silver, one of my favorite combinations of any stone and metal.
The only thing in this outfit that I didn’t get at a thrift store or a flea market are the boots. I generally get almost all of my stuff at flea markets, estate sales, and thrift stores with the exception of shoes (and underwear and socks), because I have monstrous drag-queen sized feet and it’s really hard to find used shoes in my size except on ebay.
Once again, with the exception of the boots, this whole outfits including jewelry and accessories was less than $20!
Enjoy the winter wonderland, folks!
