It’s been a while since EIU last updated, and some of you probably are wondering what’s going on. As it turns out, our beloved editor Lulu has a secret project she’s taking on that requires much of her attention and time. She’s going to focus the next few months working on that, and let other talents take the stage here at Chictopia. She’s still playing on the site, so feel free to stop by and say hello to her. Lulu has helped shape a great team and momentum here at EIU. Collectively, Everybody is Ugly is now a publication that not only covers personal style, but also designers, events, and all other that serve as inspiration to our community.
I hereby introduce our newest editor for Everybody is Ugly, Connie Wang. She’s a style icons here on Chictopia, and has also written for Teen Vogue, and the now defunct Radar Magazine. She’s got a lot to say about personal style and of-the-moment trends. Let’s welcome Connie to EIU, the publication that let’s people help determines what’s hot, and what’s ugly.
Remember when you saw the first reincarnations of the skinny jeans? For me, I vowed that I’d never be caught dead in them. “Ew,” I professed, placing one hand on the waistband of my low-rise, boot-cut distressed Abercrombie jeans. “They’re ugly.” And then, a few months later, after seeing all my favorite celebrities rocking the skinnies and the most stylish girls at school donning plastered-on pants – ta-daaa – what was ugly now became cool. Funny how that works, huh?
But that was pre-Facebook, pre-Sartorialist, and (egads) pre-Chictopia, where trends and styles were dictated from the untouchable likes of Miss Lohan and cash-money celebutantes. Thankfully nowadays, the trendsetters are you who, armed with laptops and point-and-shoot cameras, are continuously producing, transforming and redefining what it means to be stylish.
Oscar Wilde said that “fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” Chictopia’s your platform to redefine what’s ugly for yourself. It’s a moving, fluid, multi-voiced forum to inspire one another, to seek inspiration, to talk, to gush, to rant… to help one another love fashion even more!
I hope to continue the legacy of the uglies, and invite you to help me. Help us define, what’s ugly, what’s beautiful, and all that’s in between!
