Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to look like an ice queen! Embrace your natural skintone and warm up your look with plum tones, metallics, and rosy cheeks.
Trend: Plum
Deep colors are best for winter as they stand out more on lighter skin. (However, that doesn’t mean plums don’t look beautiful on dark skin as well. Simply apply with a heavier hand!) Do your skin a favor, and stop fake-baking! Embrace your winter lightness and wear a mattifying sunscreen, even if the sun isn’t out! I recommend Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock. Apply a light, dewy base, such as Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer. Now you’re ready for plum!
Try a creamy blush tint like Berry by mark.
Or, accentuate luscious lips with a lipstain – Revlon’s Frenzy is absolutely gorgeous.
If you’re feeling brave, try purple eyeshadow! Some purples tend to have a “bruised” look around the eyes, but if applied correctly can look amazing. So, don’t be afraid to try something new and practice, practice, practice!
Dip your toes in the plum trend with a nail polish like Essie’s luxedo.
Trend: Metallics
Shimmer and shine is always hot for the holidays, and this season is no exception. Highly pigmented golds and silvers are eye-catching and festive.
Apply a silver eyeshadow (I love M.A.C.’s Platinum) to the inner corners of the eye, or focus on the center of the lid and blend out. (This is one of my favorite makeup looks, seen on the runway-Vera Wang SS09)
Or, for a party or a night on the town, try a gold smokey eye. Many great smokey eye tutorials are available on Youtube, and E.L.F.’s Beauty Books are great for beginners.
Go for a bolder look with a gold lipstick. (D&G’s Shine On.)
Trend: Rosy Glow
Look sweet as a doll with pink cheeks and long lashes.
Enhance your rosy glow with a bright blush like NARS Exhibit A.
Wear a pink lipcolor like M.A.C.’s Pink Nouveau and lengthening mascara. (I love Rimmel Glam Eyes in Blackest Black.)
Apply liquid highlight such as Benefit’s High Beam on cheekbones, browbone, and cupid’s bow.
Hope you get creative and try out these makeup trends!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with~
