saturday evening, with two hours to spare before my buddies’ wedding reception, it’s the best i could whip up. i knew i wanted to work with this oversized men’s silk shirt for sure (thrifted for a dollar, baby!). it’s indigo and pure silk, so it flows and feels wonderful.
i probably won’t be selling anything like it in my shop since it’s such a blatant knock off of the wang piece, but say yay or nay for a diy tutorial. it’s fair enough to construct if you have a basic sewing machine and a old button up shirt.
the skirt is another old hand-me-down from my mom (is it obvious i am a mama’s girl yet?). it was wider and longer to begin with. i simply took the seams in and hem up, then inserted an exposed zipper for extra oomph.
these five inchers totally completed the look in all its strappy glory, but i ended up switching to flat brogues after seeing the look of morbid dread on my dude’s face. we are the same height so i can tell he gets a little self conscious whenever i wear heels. okay love, i’ll sacrifice the platforms because you are cute and smart and funny and to want more would be greed (said the little icelandic lady). also, i found the rosary in his glove compartment a couple of months ago, score! it belonged to his dad.
the party went great. a glass of red wine and two slices of cookie cake later and i’m suddenly being forced to do my best pixies cover on stage, with minimal equipment, and people watching, from-all-angles. how embarrassing! the thing about internet extroverts is that we are likely to be pretty quiet in person. well, at least i got to rock in style yeah ;)
