I had to defrost my car windows this morning.
While I look through the window, I take a sip of hot cocoa and can really feel the cold coming in. Outside I can smell wood burning in fireplaces of surrounding houses. Yes, it seems like winter started for real today.
Since I am still refusing to wear trousers on a daily basis, I find myself inspired by collections for Summer 2011 in order to decide what to wear, or even better: what to buy. As I am dreaming away, figuring out where to go on a holiday next spring, I start fantasizing about my future spring/summer 2011 wardrobe. Why not be a trendsetter and start anticipating trends-to-be already?
As usual there are a few trends that stick with us through winter. In first instance I’m thinking about the maxi lengths, denim garments and floppy hats. Next summer we will still enjoy being dressed from head to toe with bare shoulders, feminine cuts, aesthetic prints or remarkable designs.
The “male hats” (could I call those boyfriend hats?) that or on trend right now will get some serious competition next summer. The great feminine floppy hat that started its way back to the fashion scene a few months ago, will completely take over, rules are: the bigger, the better. As long as they are completely oversized, they are good to go.
Denim is never really out of fashion and during summer 2011 it will definitely not disappear out of sight. Next year we will wear our denim bleached or dark, masculine or super feminine… in short: everything is allowed!!
Some beautiful examples on these trends were shown in the collections of Dsquared2, Frankie Morello and Massimo Rebecchi.
Color is definitely on it’s way back and I find that such delightful news.
Orange, lime, fuchsia, raspberry and purple are excellent examples of the neon-trend. And yes, they look very interesting and gorgeous in combination with each other. My favorite pieces straight from the runway (based on the quote of Miuccia Prada: ’’It’s time to be bold!’’) are Gucci’s jewel- and earthy-toned jackets, trousers and tops in combination with their beautiful embellishments.
Next season must-haves consist a certain amount of contradictions. As I mentioned before; maxis remain on-trend, but so do minis! Skirts and dresses should either be ultra-long or super-short… and this trend continues in footwear.
The most fashionable way to leave your house in, will be wearing either super high heels or regular flats, the choice is up to you.
I love the fact that all the collections keep in touch with the past. Lace continues being highly fashionable, especially the less delicate type in combination with cotton. The catwalkshows of John Richmond and Moschino showed an abundance of influences from the 50s and 60s fashion scene. A-line types of dresses are a must-have for every wardrobe, since they are on trend and have such a flattering cut for most body shapes.
One of the newest trends on the runways are the (very) high splits in skirts and dresses. Designers often have the tendency to create splits, but this season these are really exaggerated. I personally love this, since flattering cuts often provide a very feminine and gorgeous touch to any garment. But I would also say: beware for head winds!!
So far my notion of the Summer 2011’s fashion trends.
There are some Chictopians who are right on trend already, I especially find the neon trend slowly making its way to the street style scene:
Next Chictopian Style Icon (in my opinion) Fancytreehouse combined her bold red pants with an adorable retro-inspired lace top, being ready for colder temperatures and fashion forward at the same time. Her icy blonde features complete this delicate picture, along with the cozy oversized cardigan.
Dunia_C is wearing an oversized floppy hat with a lot of 70s flare. I love the soft wintery-colors in this outfit and her Zara hat is definitely a good investment for next season that you could wear all winter as well.
Most stylish districtofchic is wearing a long skirt with a length very suitable for these colder seasons. I recommend following her example and going for a maxi skirt with an aesthetic print like this one. It is a statement piece that should not be excluded from any wardrobe next Spring/Summer 2011.
Chomy did an excellent job combining this leopard print with neon purple trousers. This outfit is perfect for all seasons, livening up our style gallery with her bold, warm colors, textures and prints. Leopard prints are here to stay through winter, spring and Summer 2011.
Style icon kellyshoestrings‘ dress is close to perfection, having the perfect vintage 50s silhouette combined with an extremely bold neon colored print. I absolutely love the neon trend for fall, since these colors tend to make me happy.
I hope you got to learn a little bit more about next seasons trends and enjoyed reading this summary. Thank you all for your support!!
