This outfit is a tribute to my local hero- the designer Laura Ashley. Known best for her Victorian revival pieces and pastorial florals in the 1970s and 80s. She, like myself, lived and worked in rural Mid- Wales, and her designs reflected her love of the countryside and and harked back to a mythical past of uncompliacted home-loving country life. The best thing about the fact that the clothing was all manufactured locally, is that there’s still loads of vintage Laura Ashley stuff knocking about in the charity shops. Bargain. I’ve accumulated a few pieces over the years, and I’m saving one particular evening gown (velvet and taffeta) for a future post around Christmas time. Lady Di was a fan when she began courting Prince Charles-( I’ve included the famous silhouetted “Money Shot” ). I think the key to wearing vintage Laura Ashley is to treat it like a steamy period drama, wear it with attitude and reveal a glimpse of your inner bad girl.
