Iris: I’m obsessed with hats and peter pan collars, Rel is such an inspiration, always chic.
United by the title style icon, an amazing fashion sense and the “No pants for Iris” rule, these fashion guru’s keep on rockin’ Chictopia-land. Jazzyhwang interviewed them about two months ago, right before they became one of the style icons of August, time for an update on this remarkable fashion unit: irisanddaniel.
You became Chictopian style icons so rapidly, how did that feel? Both: It was alarming to be chosen as style icon so quickly, we really did not expect to gain such a prestigious title on Chictopia as quickly as we did. We thought that the length of membership was also taken into account, so we were in elated shock when we got the message from Cheri asking if we wanted to become Style Icons.
Who was first to discover you were style icons? Iris: I saw the message first, and my first reaction, even before immediate joy, was “GOTTA TELL DANIEL”, haha. It was really exciting and we were really happy.
Daniel: It was amazing! When Iris told me, I didn’t believe it and had to go check our messages myself. I was the one who wrote back to Cheri accepting the style icon status. We weren’t told specifically what style icons get for receiving the title… we do notice our photos get into the style gallery much faster than they did before though.
Did you consider yourself possible style icons before you got the official status? Both: We knew we were possibly up for style icon status because we were listed on the Chic Corner page as in the running. We didn’t think we would become style icons that month because there were so many other great people up against us with way more fans and photos in the style gallery. We knew that one day we wanted to achieve style icon status though, I mean what member doesn’t? Haha.
You’re right, most Chictopians are already over the moon for getting in the style gallery or on first page, the status would mean so much for most of us, but until that day it remains a silent dream… Does it ever bother you that the title says style icon instead of style icons? Both: It doesn’t bother us that much that we aren’t style icon*s*: because we know we are the exception, not the rule. There doesn’t seem to be an influx of joint-bloggers on Chictopia because it’s not really made for it, but we thought the only way we could blog would be together, haha.
How would you define the others signature style? Iris: Daniel’s style is kind of humorous to me, haha. He really enforces masculinity mixed with femininity to create drama. Daniel always looks really different everyday and likes to emphasize extremes, like one day he will wear a veil and the next day he will look very boyish-casual. It’s completely opposite of mine but I like it anyways.
Daniel: I would describe Iris’ style as a grandma-British-cool-girl-sweet-vintage-lover-chic? She always wears quite vintage-y pieces but in a very quirky and fresh way. I don’t think she ever runs the risk of looking too old because of the way she puts together her clothes, she mixes up the patterns and colors in a really insane and youthful way but keeps everything chic and classic.
Iris, you have an amazing wardrobe with a lot of must-have pieces. Where do you go when you need an additional piece? Iris: I love to shop at thrift stores because they have the type of items I love to wear and they are affordable. I don’t like to spend too much money on clothes but I like to look good, so I thrift. Most “actual stores” in the mall or something don’t carry the kind of items I like, which are usually vintage looking or items that would be more expensive if they weren’t thrifted.
Daniel, you are one of the most avant-garde males on chictopia. Where do you find your inspiration? Daniel: Thank you, haha! I dress quite dramatically and theatrically for everyday and it’s not something that I expect other people to take up. I would love for different styles to be seen more in everyday or for people to not think that it’s so weird, but I know that I can’t expect people to dress the way I do because it’s a bit impractical. I’m inspired by fashion, my favorite designers are Tisci for Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh, and Karl Lagerfeld.
Something I always wonder about whenever I get a comment from you; who gives the comments? Daniel: We both comment, but we do it separately. I probably comment more than Iris does but that’s just because I really like writing. However, Iris probably views more photos and faves them more often.
You are both very active participants of the community. Which one of you two is on chictopia mostly? Daniel: We both use Chictopia equally, we’re on almost all the time. We love to check our comments, messages, and everyone else’s photos. We are probably online at the same time too… haha. I think I write in the forum more often though.
What movie-character can you identify yourself with? Iris: I think I identify most with Minnie Mouse because she always looks put together and no matter what style, she has the same type of look. And she’s always got a cinched waist and poofy skirt, an Iris staple look.
Daniel: I identify with basically the entire Star Wars franchise and the fashion of the films. I love the simplicity and minimalism of the original trilogy, and the grandeur and drama of the prequels. I think the movies encapsulate my style quite well.
