Have you ever been so inspired by a designer’s runway collections but never knew how to translate the drama of the runway into your everyday life? We will show you how to channel these inspirations into wearable, fashionable outfits. Alexander McQueen was an inspiration, a strong influence in the fashion world illustrating the beauty that theatrics and tailoring had together. We loved his designers and this is our tribute to him through our style. Everybody Is Ugly, McQueen style.
Firstly, you need to think about what you really loved from the show, the designer’s signatures that you really picked up on. In the second and third additional photos, we have separate inspiration boards showing what we loved from each of the collections from Alexander McQueen.
Daniel I love the drama of McQueen, the theatrical way he put together ready to wear clothing. I believe that this is essential in my style, so I wanted to create a look that had drama when walking. This fabric flows in the wind and created a train behind me, very shocking, and very McQueen. My jacket is a McQueen-inspired piece from H&M, which goes to show how easy it is to wear your favorite designer looks for a student-friendly price. I combined a few looks from his last collection, Fall 2010, to create what I wore today. Nick Knight of ShowStudio, a collaborator with McQueen, featured Lady Gaga in his recent editorial from Vanity Fair and used a McQueen dress that had flowing fabric that had fluidity, I hoped to capture the same movement in my outfit.
Iris My favorite thing about Alexander McQueen’s fashions are the fantasy settings he creates. His girls are like princesses in a twisted world, something that is intangible yet so real. I loved the look of the fur coat and full red skirt from his Fall 2008 collection and wanted to replicate that in my outfit today. Instead of completely rehashing McQueen, I wanted to do it in an inspired way. I switched the colors, white skirt with a red coat instead of vice versa. The American Apparel Petticoat skirt is from ChicRewards, such a great redeem, I encourage you all go look at what you can get for free. I wore a feather butterfly in my hair from the craft store inspired by his Spring 2008 collection. I kept everything pretty simple, but with pieces that packed a lot of impact.
Shop your closet, and look for new pieces that are inspired by the pieces and looks you loved in the shows. Styling is key, and a look can really be helped by the way you styled the outfit, if you love a runway look take into consideration how it was styled and see how it can work for
Hopefully we have inspired you with our inspiration.
