Here is part 1 of my 2 part series on putting together an outfit aka how to make a garment look expensive. Tomorrow, how that garment can go horribly wrong and end up looking really trashy. That isn’t the official title yet. I’m working on it…
I took a trip to Nordstroms and picked up a few items to demonstrate today’s lesson. This basic $28 color block dress serves as the foundation for both parts of this series. It’s not really my style, but for these purposes, it’ll have to do.
Neckwear – both jewelry and scarves add interest to a plain neckline. However, instead of tossing on any ragged scarf, take a tip from fellow Chictopian ouijesuis and tie your scarf in a bow.
Stockings/ tights – take a cue from our British users like Kirsty and experiment with different shades, colors, and patterns. It adds a bit of class to an otherwise uninteresting summer dress.
Lace ups – a classic heeled lace up shoe does a lot to enhance your look without distracting. Making a garment look expensive is all about complimenting the outfit, rather than showing off distracting pieces. And they’re a favorite amongst my Co-ed Uglies annabel and lindarrr.
Part two tomorrow!
